The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
Protestant Religious Education (RE) Director/Youth Minister, Community Chapel
1 The Protestant RE Director shall 1) work to develop, enhance and expedite a comprehensive Protestant RE Program including all required documentation. 2) Develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate RE opportunities for Airmen, cadet candidates, and families of USAFA Community Chapel Program, 3) Plan, coordinate, and carry out a comprehensive Protestant Religious Education program for middle and senior high youth mid-week as well as Sunday school children programming. 4) Consults and Coordinates with the assigned Chaplain as well as Chapel Staff, volunteers, lay ministers and the Parish Advisory Council (PAC) to carry out administrative and other support of all Protestant programs offered and conducted at the Community Chapel. 5) The Protestant RE Director will provide a high-quality Protestant RE program and provide all deliverables as confirmed by the assigned Protestant Chaplain.
2 Qualifications. The Protestant RE Director shall:
This is not an entry level position. Prefer individual with 3 to 5 years of experience in a military chapel or large Protestant Church. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
2.1 Possess a college degree or equivalent, two professional letters of recommendation and a letter of recommendation and good standing from a Protestant Minister or other church official. This letter must be furnished with initial submission of the candidate's recommendation. At a minimum the letter must state the individual is in good standing with a Protestant Church. The letter shall be no older than six months from the start of the base period of contract performance by the candidate.
2.2 Have Protestant religious education, children, or youth ministry experience.
2.3 Possess the ability to work cooperatively with chapel staff, volunteers, and members of other faith groups for ecumenical, combined, and inter-faith youth activities.
2.4 Individual must be familiar with Protestant theology and practices.
3 Duties and Responsibilities. The Protestant RE Director shall:
3.1 Coordinate with the assigned Protestant chaplain to arrange space and set-up for Protestant RE programs, children's church, midweek Youth Program & Preparatory School religious education, and Vacation Bible School (VBS) in coordination with the Catholic RE Director at the direction of the Wing Chaplain. The Protestant RE Director shall coordinate with PAC officers, volunteer lay leaders, and members of the Community Chapel in carrying out the responsibilities under the direction of the assigned Chaplain.
3.2 Consult, collaborate and coordinate with the assigned chaplain to develop, and submit an annual calendar of events, Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) and appropriate funds budgets, and annual RE curriculum order to include all required supplies to the Deputy Wing Chaplain and Wing Chaplain for approval as determined by local instructions.
3.3 Identify and coordinate Chapel Tithes and Offerings or Appropriated Funds (APF) budget requests to support the Religious Education Program to the Catholic chaplain
Purchase items IAW local operating instructions once the request has been coordinated, vetted, signed and approved. Submit documents to the Account Manager in a timely manner (per local policy) to ensure timely completion.
3.4 Submit CTOF and APF budget requirements/inputs prior to 1 Feb for the following fiscal year budget.
3.5 Oversee registrations and payments, respond to inquiries, and create a working folder for the Protestant RE program. Submit and file history reports and after-action reports (AAR) for future reference by the assigned chaplain.
3.6 Oversee and maintain work relating to stated RE programs, including a family database, program registration records, class lists, and volunteer information.
3.7 Schedule and organize, in collaboration with the appropriate Catholic program leaders, ecumenical events that (such as VBS). RE coordinator will consult with the assigned program Chaplain, recruit volunteer teachers and staff, and order the appropriate materials when program needs dictate.
3.8 Schedule and organize, in collaboration with the Protestant Chaplain, religious education retreats or special chapel-wide events in accordance with the approved Airman Ministry Plan.
3.9 Publicize youth or RE activities by suspense dates and get approval from the assigned Protestant Chaplain before advertisements by any medium are distributed. Post RE activities and event info or photos to the Chapel webpage or Social Media Account(s).
3.10 Coordinate regular meetings as required by the assigned Protestant Chaplain to provide information on upcoming RE and youth activity needs, concerns, and plans.
Work cooperatively with chapel staff, volunteers and members of other faith groups for ecumenical, combined, and inter-faith youth activities.
3.11 Be responsible for recruiting, training and assisting all volunteers for Protestant children, middle and high school youth programs. Maintain a current comprehensive list of all Protestant RE volunteers to include roles, training and hours volunteered.
Coordinate with Chapel Staff regarding background checks of volunteers.
3.12 Coordinate and setup room requirements for the Protestant mid-week preparatory school and Airman's Religious Education program. Recruit staff, procure necessary materials and supplies, train volunteer staff as needed, and supervise this activity.
3.13 Plan, coordinate or execute a Sunday morning children's program which includes a scriptural teaching, spiritual lesson and classroom activity. A yearly calendar plan should be submitted to the assigned Protestant Chaplain in advance.
3.14 Maintain a monthly schedule of middle and high school youth activities, coordinate funds, event, and facility requests with prior approval from the assigned Protestant Chaplain.
3.15 Plan, coordinate and execute special events and projects for Protestant Youth as approved by the assigned Protestant Chaplain. Submit and file an After-Action Report or AAR for future reference after each major event as directed.
3.16 Coordinate, plan and attend retreats and/or mission trips for the youth. Retreats may be funded by CTOF or Gift Funds, to include food, lodging, and transportation per DAFI 52- 105.
3.17 Attend all scheduled PAC meetings or staff meetings as directed by the assigned Protestant chaplain.
3.18 Arrive NLT 30 minutes prior to scheduled RE or youth activities.
3.19 Open and secure the chapel building and other facilities used for youth activities when Chapel support staff is not on duty. Coordinate with the facility manager on availability and scheduling.
3.20 Plan a minimum of one youth activity per week during the academic year and two multiday events (camps, conferences, mission trip, etc.) during the summer break in consultation with the assigned Protestant Chaplain.
3.21 Provide written AAR on all special events and retreats to include suggested changes of direction, trends, and problem areas within one week of completion of the event to the assigned Protestant chaplain.
3.22 Provide, in writing, an annual review of the program each May by providing a summary of activities, trends, and progress from the preceding year. Include information and suggestions regarding future program direction.
3.23 Generate program information for distribution to parents and track parental permission slips. With approval from the assigned Chaplain, advise parents about the youth ministry programs, goals, and needs. Encourage parents to be active participants in the youth ministry program. Educate parents in the phases that their youth may be going through and things to watch for in their spiritual development as appropriate.
3.24 Maintain and advertise as many regular office hours (Monday through Sunday) as are requisite for all described duties and sufficient to provide for regular published access by parishioners at the Community Chapel. Office schedule must be approved by the assigned Chaplain. The Community Chapel will provide office space with a desk, chair, computer, printer, filing cabinets, bookcases, phone, expendable office supplies, and other items deemed necessary to perform services as described in this JOB DESCRIPTION including access to the NIPR system upon completion of military requirements for access.
3.25 Procure a Government issued driver's license to drive a Government Operated Vehicle (GOV) from the Logistics Readiness Squadron so that base transportation can be used for youth activities.
