DescriptionThe primary mission of Counseling & Psychological Services (C&PS) is to provide services to students and the university community that support and enhance the education of the whole person, as well as nurture a healthy and productive learning-centered campus environment. All C&PS services are provided and designed to promote academic excellence and retention at SDSU. Counseling & Psychological Services provides, either directly or through collaboration and referral, a variety of counseling services, (e.g., individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, short-term psychotherapy), assessment and evaluation, faculty and staff consultation, and professional training/supervision, consistent with the educational mission of the university.Under the direction of the Associate Director of Counseling & Psychological Services, the Psychiatric Crisis Assessment Support Team Clinician will act as a liaison to diverse and vulnerable populations to promote safety and prevent crime through community engagement and trust-building. This position is part of a two-year pilot project housed directly within SDSU UPD.The position will involve the provision of the following: The full range of psychological services to students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds presenting complex psychosocial, social, personal, and family problems; crisis/suicide intervention and trauma response/debriefing; consultation, prevention education, and training services to individuals (e.g., students, faculty, staff, parents, administrators), campus groups (e.g., student clubs, residence hall communities, fraternities, sororities) and organizational units (e.g., Associated Students, academic departments, Student Affairs Offices).For more information regarding Counseling & Psychological Services, click here .This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, contingent position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but hours for this position may vary based on operational needs.QualificationsEducation and ExperiencePossess a license-eligible doctorate in psychology, counseling, behavioral sciences, or a related academic field,oraCalifornia licenseto independently practice as a Psychologist, Marriage & Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.Candidates must have a demonstrated record of success in serving and counseling students or the equivalent.Multicultural and counseling approaches with ethnically and culturally diverse clients and communitiesExperience with case management, brief interventions, and crisis management in a college counseling center is desired (may be substituted by experience with transitional-aged youth (TAY) populations in other settings.Significant knowledge of and experience making discerning judgments regarding complex ethical and legal issues is required.Licenses and/or Certifications RequiredCandidates must possess a California license or be license-eligible to practice Psychology in California, (license must be obtained within 18 months of date of hire),orpossess a California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.Preferred QualificationsBasic understanding of law enforcement's scope of work and paramilitary work environment cultures.Experience and clinical effectiveness with motivational counseling approachesTrauma response debriefing capabilitiesCandidate must have a demonstrable respect for diversity and an ability to effectively work from a multicultural perspective with people from a wide range of backgrounds and value systems.
