We encourage Military Veterans and Military Spouses to apply! SITE OF SERVICE: Services will be in support of the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii (NHCH). Services shall be provided at the Headquarters (HQ), NHCH Branch Health Clinic (BHC) Makalapa, BHC Kaneohe Bay HI, or associated BHCs/Annexes within a 25-mile radius of the NHCH.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: Education: Possess one of the following:Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program.Completion of an equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians.Completion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving psychiatric technician training or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients.Experience: Possess at least 1 year full-time experience within the preceding 2 years as either a Psychiatric Technician OR Mental Health Technician OR a LPN with at least 1 year full-time experience within the preceding 3 years in a partial, acute or long-term (residential) psychiatric facility.
Certificate: BLS certification through American Heart Association must be hands-on course.
U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.
English Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
HCW Physical Capability: HCWs shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services.
Complete and Pass competency-based evaluations in accordance with Joint Commission standards.
Upon employment complete facility and Department of Defense specific training.
SPECIFIC DUTIES: Provide care for eligible patients resulting from the deployment-related screenings in accordance with the Deployment Health Clinical Center (DHCC) guidelines.Emphasis will be on the treatment of mental health to include post-traumatic stress disorders and other combat-related psychological symptoms.Family member care, related to deployment, may be included in the active duty member's scheduled sessions.Measure and record patient's general physical condition, such as pulse, temperature, and respiration, to provide daily information; observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to medical staff.Intervene to restrain violent, potentially violent or suicidal patients by verbal or physical means as required.Co-facilitate prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures.CORE DUTIES: Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patients.Perform initial basic assessment procedures including standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessment.Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses, and provide patient education.Observe, monitor, record, and report patient's progress.Conduct or assist in conducting group and individual counseling, therapeutic community, and other related milieu activities.Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide.Assist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures.Obtain and record vital signs.Coordinate with other agencies regarding specified care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions.Contact military and community agencies to obtain collateral information.Explain and interpret mental health services to patients or others.Assist in, or arrange patient referral to public, private, and military community agencies.Prepare and maintain records and reports pertaining to specialty services.Assist with care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions.Prepare and maintain treatment records.Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.Practice aseptic techniques as necessary. Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed.Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTF.Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.Participate in continuing education to meet own professional growth.Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the Command.Actively participate in the command's Performance Improvement Program.Participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members.Attend and participate in various meetings as directed.Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.Operate and manipulate automated systems.Maintain DOD email account as directed.Exercise appropriate delegation of tasks and duties.Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives.HOURS: Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0600 and 1800 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5 TO 9 hour period, inclusive of an uncompensated 30 to 60 minute lunch break. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of 80 hours per two-week period.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS: Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
