Job SummaryThe incumbent provides professional services in psychiatry including psychiatric assessment, consultation, medication management, and referrals to CSULB students. The incumbent enthusiastically supports the University's strong commitment to the academic success of all students, including students of color, students with disabilities, first-generation college students, veterans, and offers CSULB students a rich variety of expertise, perspectives, and ways of knowing and learning.

Key ResponsibilitiesProvide psychiatric assessment and medication management to students, including initial intake evaluations and follow-up for students referred to psychiatry. Formulate appropriate ICD diagnosis, treatment plan, and disposition. Provide medication consultation and intervention as needed.Provide consultation to CAPS staff, campus SHS providers, CSU faculty/staff, as well as the public, both in-person and on the telephone.Provide psychiatric consultation for the wide campus community.Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to provide psychiatric services (clinical assessment, medication evaluation, crisis intervention, and psychiatric hospitalization). Effective and safe medication management knowledge and protocols. Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and respect. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective presentations, facilitation of open exchanges of ideas, and clear, concise documentation.
Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and maintain cooperative working relationships. Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with students, departmental staff, and CSU faculty/staff, and with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow Work Protocols and Safe Work Practices.
Education and ExperienceGraduation from a medical school and completion of one or more residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent in a specialty appropriate to their assigned specialty duties.
Physical SummarySedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).Licenses / CertificatesValid and relevant State of California license to practice medicine; current medical board certification appropriate for the assigned duties; valid DEA certificate and number for prescribing controlled substances; and current CPR/AED certification required. Current and valid Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry before commencement of the position.
Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

CompensationThe salary range for this classification is $83.19 to $161.90 per hour.
Time BaseHourly/intermittent on call temporary position. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
