A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health disorders. They assess patients' mental and emotional well-being, conduct evaluations, and use a range of treatments, including psychotherapy, medication, and other interventions, to address conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and more.

Psychiatrist Qualifications Valid license to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine in Michigan
DEA license to prescribe controlled substances
Michigan Controlled Substance License
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
Board certified (preferred) or Board Eligible
Completed accredited psychiatric residency program
Minimum one year psychiatric experience in a mental health clinic, correctional facility, or inpatient hospital
Strong diagnostic skills and knowledge of evidence-based treatments
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for teamwork
Independent decision-making skills in fast-paced settings
Adherence to ethical and legal standards
