Psychiatrist (North Hawaii Community Hospital, Big Island)Queen's North Hawai'i Community Hospital is a 35-bed, full-service, acute-care hospital located in the heart of Waimea (Kamuela) on Hawai'i Island, at an altitude of 2,600 feet and at the base of the often snow-topped mountain of Mauna Kea. Queen's North Hawai'i Community Hospital serves more than 30,000 residents in North Hawai'i, as well as the many visitors to the island.
Queen's North Hawai'i Community Hospital opened in 1996 after years of community fundraising and grassroots efforts with the mission of improving the health of the people of North Hawai'i by improving access to care. The only acute care hospitals were the state-run Hilo Medical Center and Kona Community Hospital, both approximately one hour away.
With the influence of Dr. Earl Bakken, the hospital was built upon the foundation of a holistic, healing environment that focused on the body, mind and spirit, and integrative medicine.
JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct psychiatric care to patients referred for psychiatric care in the Queen's North Hawaii Community Hospital (QNHCH) Primary Care Clinic.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in the development and implementation of programming for patients with mental illness, patients dually diagnosed with substance abuse or dependence, and the Severely Disabled Mentally III (SDMI) populations.Assists in the further development of tele-psychiatry program.Functions as a consultant to other clinical staff.Conducts in-service education programs for clinical staff as needed.Acts as an advocate and clinical liaison for the clinic/department.Performs ambulatory psychiatric assessments.Develops, reviews and updates patient ambulatory treatment plans. Review includes assessment of patient progress toward treatment plan goals and need for continued treatment.Provides medication management for patient who need psychiatric outpatient management.Completes all necessary documentation as required by clinic policy to meet The Queen's Health System (QHS), government and regulatory agency requirements.Consults with the patients' primary care provider(s) to coordinate medication and treatment issues, directs and negotiates treatment plan changes and provides documentation of the coordination of care in the medical record.Provides inpatient consults when available.Performs other clinical duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.Current board certification in Psychiatry. If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within five (5) years from the date of completion of residency or fellowship training.Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QNHCH Medical Staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, preferred.Base salary begins at $293,631/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
