SPECIAL EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT:

The Special Education Department is committed to providing instructional services in inclusive environments that will prepare students that receive special education services for life and careers.


POSITION SUMMARY:

This position provides support for students with complex mental health, behavioral, and educational needs who are enrolling in PPS following an extended absence from a public school setting.
This position works collaboratively with families and community organizations to ensure that students return to PPS with proper IEP services and placements.
The placement coordinator also provides consultation to school teams, families and community members in order to support students and families who are experiencing mental health crisis and other significant challenges.


Job Duties and Responsibilities: Provide consultation to school teams and families to develop crisis intervention plans, safety plans and provide community resources for students and families in crisis Provide consultation and support to school staff in supporting students with complex mental health needs Provide consultation to Program Administrators and regional teams within 3D process and school buildings Collaborate with Community Transition Program and Multiple Pathways to assist in placement of students with complex mental health needs Create and maintain partnerships with community based organizations and agencies, state and county agencies, hospitals and other school districts/programs Manage and support all aspects of complex cases for out of district or privately placed PPS students.
Provide consultation on IEP services, accommodations, interventions and placement to school teams, regional sped teams and other PPS departments Consultation/Liaison on Special Education Law and procedures to outside agencies and organizations that work with students and families, Provide Professional Development within Special Education and district wide to increase staff efficacy when working with high risk students who experience complex mental health or social service needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must hold any of the following A TSPC Personnel Services License issued by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) with a School Counselor, School Psychologist or School Social Worker endorsement A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) License issued by the O regon Board of Licensed Social Workers A Professional License issued by the Oregon Board of Licensed Counselors and Therapists Knowledge of classroom behavior management strategies, social skills curriculum, and NCI training.
Knowledge of community resources, understanding and interpreting psychological reports effectively to others, and provide family, individual, and group consultation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Training and/or experience in a similar classroom setting.
Bilingual/Bi-Cultural Chinese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese applicants are highly desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Position requires the use of a personal automobile and possession of a valid Class C Oregon driver's license to drive to/from different locations.
Work hours may include on- and off-campus evening and weekend activities and meetings and district, school and student functions.
COMPENSATION: $55,539 - $108,07 (Annual salary based on 1.0 FTE)

WORK YEAR: 193 days

Portland Public Schools is a public employer and participates in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP).
Eligible employees are required by statute to contribute 6% of salary on a pre-tax basis to OPSRP/IAP, after serving six months under a PERS employer.
