Quantitative Analyst Intern, CoStar Risk Analytics - Summer 2025 (Boston, MA)

OVERVIEW

CoStar Risk Analytics, located in Boston, MA, works with market participants across the commercial real estate (CRE) lending spectrum. Our solution provides lenders with the ability to better target business, appropriately price loans, make informed approval of credits, actively manage their portfolio with robust stress testing and surveillance measures, assess refinance risk and execute with a disciplined framework. Our clients include both public and private lenders, ranging from commercial banks and financial institutions to pension funds and insurance companies as well as government and rating agencies.

CoStar Risk Analytics is currently looking for a Quantitative Analyst Intern to join the growing Boston based team. The mission of the Quantitative Analyst Intern is to help develop credit risk models for commercial real estate whole loans, CMBS securitized loans, and residential mortgage loans to enhance the analytical functionalities in our Lender product platform to assist lender clients in their loan surveillance and risk management processes. In addition, the Quantitative Analyst Intern performs research regarding mortgage risk, pricing, structured products, portfolio risk management, and related topics.

Responsibilities:
Conduct quantitative research applied towards evaluation of CRE mortgage default risk, prepayment risk, recoveries, pricing, capital adequacy, and other related credit risk analysis.
Assist in analyzing CRE and residential mortgage loan portfolios of banks, life insurance, agency, and CMBS.
Apply data mining techniques to generate and validate databases for model development use.
Analyze loan default risk and losses with CoStar Risk Analytics' commercial real estate credit default model.
Contribute to model program de-bugging and Beta testing of model prototype versions
Assist with clients' quantitative requests and analytical projects.

Basic Qualifications:
Currently pursuing Master's degreein Economics/ Statistics/ Real Estate/ Finance/ Financial Engineering,or relevant field
Research background in econometrics, quantitative methodologies, applied statistical analysis, model building
Good programming skills in Python, R, SQL, SAS, Stata, or other languages and the ability to conduct data mining in large dataset
Attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Experience with commercial and residential mortgage credit risk modeling and analysis
Familiarity with industry trends in investment, technology, and lending such as AI/machine learning, climate risk
