Job Description - Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Surgery - FT Day Shift (2403823)
Position Summary The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader. He/she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. He/she evaluates patient's physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family. The Registered Nurse is responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team. He/she functions as a mentor to their team, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures. He/she maintains a professional profile, promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Duties of a Registered Nurse may include the following but are not limited to: Uses the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient careCollects data relevant to patient's condition and reports critical values to physician in a timely mannerAssesses appropriate lab and diagnostic dataDocuments findings of physical assessment and is able to identify abnormal findingsDevelops plan of care based on patient needAdvocates on behalf of the patient and their familyPerforms interventions according to patient need and hospital policyEvaluates patient outcomes in relation to goalsAdheres to all safety guidelines and exercises the utmost care when interacting with patientsDemonstrates a professional demeanor in interactions with patient, family, peers, and staff, and maintains open communication with nursing managementAdmission and Discharge of ambulatory and endoscopy patientsScrub and circulate in endoscopy suiteOther duties as deemed appropriate by managementQualifications Required Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited School of NursingCurrent Licensure to practice in New York StateCurrent BLS, ACLS and PALS provider certifications from the American Heart AssociationOn call required for endoscopyTwo years Medical/Surgical experienceAbility to lift patients with or without assistancePreferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in NursingExperience in Ambulatory Care settingPrior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Employee Health ServicesComplete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional referencesSuccessfully complete a 4 panel drug screenMeet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screeningsProvide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s)Company Overview: Stony Brook Southampton Hospital as part of the Stony Brook Medicine provides direct access to the highest level of academic-based medical care.
