Job Summary: The Emergency Department Nurse will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to American Indian and Alaska Native populations, focusing on emergency care services. The role requires advanced nursing skills, cultural competence, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment. Nurses will collaborate with the Chinle Service Unit (CSU) nursing staff to maintain standards of care and enhance patient outcomes.
Responsibilities: Patient Care Duties: -Provide the full range of emergency care services to patients of all age groups.
-Perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) to guide decision-making and prioritize care.
-Utilize nursing knowledge and clinical skills to deliver goal-oriented and individualized care.
-Apply scientific, psychosocial, and cultural nursing principles to address the physical, mental, and spiritual health of patients.
-Recognize complications of disease processes and implement appropriate life-saving measures.
-Manage medications, assess dosages, and address potential side effects or complications.
-Analyze medical procedures and translate results into actionable nursing interventions.
-Perform clinical procedures, including intravenous access, phlebotomy, EKGs, respiratory treatments, and emergency responses.
Collaboration & Communication: -Work harmoniously within healthcare teams and effectively communicate with Native American patients and families.
-Provide education and guidance to patients, families, and healthcare staff regarding health and treatment plans.
-Participate in CSU quality improvement initiatives and multidisciplinary planning.
Operational Responsibilities: -Comply with competency standards during orientation and ongoing evaluations.
-Ensure proper use, maintenance, and accountability for hospital equipment and supplies.
-Contribute to administrative tasks and documentation required by CSU protocols.
-Assist with daily quality checks and clinical decision-making processes.
Work Schedule: -Follow a 12.5-hour shift schedule, totaling 7 shifts in a 2-week period.
-Be available to work weekends, holidays, day and night shifts, as needed.
-Rotation into other duty sections to support patient care during staffing shortages.
Required Qualifications: Experience: -A minimum of thirty-six (36) months of nursing experience is required, with at least twenty-four (24) months of experience in the specialty outlined in the contract, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer.
License/Registration: Al-l candidates must possess a current, valid, and unrestricted nursing license issued by any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory for the duration of the contract.
-Any derogatory reports regarding licensure must be disclosed immediately to the Emergency Department Supervisor or designee.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
Additional certifications required include:
-Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) -Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) -Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) Candidates must have completed their degree or diploma in professional nursing from a program accredited by a legally recognized state or national accrediting body at the time of graduation.
