POSITION DETAILS:
Part-time with benefits; 60 hours, 5 - 12 hour shifts, in the two week pay period; night shift working 1730-0530; generally Monday - Thursday nights with occasional weekend coverage; holiday rotation.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating the nursing care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric, who may present at any point on the continuum from illness to wellness.
Performs all aspects of direct patient care and works with other disciplines/ancillary services in the care they provide.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION: 1.
Plans, implements and evaluates all levels of patient care.
Performs age appropriate assessments and provides safe and effective care to all ages.
2.
Performs triage according to the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5 level triage process.
3.
Documents, using medical terminology, and maintains an ED record that is medically and legally acceptable, reflective of all nursing care provided and the patients response to the care given.
4.
Collaborates with all providers, peers, ancillary department and outside agencies to provide efficient, cost effective, optimum patient care.
5.
Coordinates the care needs of multiple patients.
Able to prioritize patient care to ensure patient needs are met in a timely fashion, and that quality care is delivered and the patient flow is enhanced.
6.
Verbally communicates patient needs in a concise, reasoned fashion.
The RN is able to advocate for the patients under her care through the use of communication with providers, peers and ancillary departments.
This may include using the chain of command when needed.
7.
Actively participates in developing own professional goals.
Completes all required education, audits, and in-services in allotted time frame.
8.
Assesses patient and family knowledge and discharge needs and provides for same.
9.
Monitors life support and automated technical equipment, performs routine and complex treatments including medication administration and emergency resuscitation protocols.
Inserts and safely administers IV fluids, blood and blood products, and other parenteral fluids.
10.
Responds to crisis in a calm, efficient manner, directing others concisely.
Uses delegation appropriately.
11.
Complies with legal consent, transfer protocols, and other legislative requirements that preserve patient rights and ensure appropriateness of care.
12.
Able to rapidly solve and deliver calm, efficient care in a high stress situation.
13.
Maintains equipment and supplies.
Makes sure all check lists are completed, supplies are put away and rooms are stocked as delegated before leaving each shift.
14.
Participates in providing educational experiences for pre-hospital emergency providers and other students.
15.
Demonstrated proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
16.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
2.
Current licensure to permit to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Wisconsin.
3.
Current certification or eligibility to become BLS, ACLS,TNCC or ATCN, ENPC and Neonatal certified.
4.
One-year experience in Medical/Surgical, Critical Care and or Emergency Care experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: 1.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
2.
Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
3.
Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform essential professional nursing practice.
4.
Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment.
5.
Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others.
6.
Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
7.
Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
8.
Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
9.
Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients.
JOB REQUIREMENTS 1.
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
2.
The Registered Nurse is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
The RN is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
3.
The RN must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
4.
Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
5.
Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials and to administer and accurately prepare medications.
