POSITION SUMMARY: Functions in a variety of roles including family planning, abortion services, on call nursing, and centralized services depending on the needs of the health center and training level. Provides patient care according to PPLM protocols and policies and the professional standards of the American Nurses Association. Complies with all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, CLIA, Title X, CDC, DEA, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Complies with all RN related documented workflows including the follow-up and referral procedures as outlined in PPLM's Follow-up Manual. Acts as a role model and resource for health care assistants, volunteers, and interns while providing a supervising role. Works collaboratively with all health center staff and managers to contribute to a positive work environment. Schedule: Thursday and Friday 8AM-4PM 15 hours per week ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: All Responsibilities are based on health center needs and training level: - Performs patient care for family planning services including intake, assessment, education, medication administration/dispensation, and discharge procedures per PPLM protocols and documented standing orders
- Performs patient care for abortion services per PPLM protocols and documented standing orders, including the following:
- Manages flow of abortion service, screening patient charts for medical eligibility and accuracy of all chart documentation, managing staff responsibilities and coordinating with the provider in the case of medical emergencies/hospital transports, facilitating urgent referrals and coordinating on and off-site follow-up
- Ensures accuracy of controlled substance counts and documentation of all daily and monthly compliance checks (code cart/AED/O2 tanks)
- Prepares patients for abortion procedures by establishing eligibility of sedation, establishing/maintaining IV access, and administering moderate sedation, monitoring, and supporting patients and assisting physician during the procedure
- Provides recovery area admission, monitoring, teaching, and discharge
- Performs patient care for centralized services per PPLM protocols and documented standing orders
- Follows all procedures for centralized services RNs (CSRNs)as outlined in PPLM's Follow-up Manual including timely telephone response for patient questions/concerns, prescription needs, lab test and referral follow up for patients who have received care from PPLM
- Oversees the work of centralized services Health Care Assistants (CSHCAs)
- Collaborates/consults with APCs (Advance Practice Clinician) and the on-call physician to determine appropriate patient care needs as indicated
- Ensures compliance with policies for medication labeling/expiration/waste
- Other duties as assigned
