Organization: Med/Surg 2 North
Job Summary: Responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating care for various patients within the facility. Reports directly to the Clinical Director of the unit. This position works in conjunction with other members of nursing service, ancillary services, physicians, patients, and families. It collaborates with various members of the healthcare team to ensure quality of care across the continuum. Requires the ability to be self-directed and quality focused. Interpersonal communication skills are a necessary function of this position.
Hours of Position: Full-time, 36 hours/week, 7p-7a

Department Summary: 2-North is a Medical/Surgical unit that is located on the 2nd floor of the Patient Tower at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. This is a 30-bed unit with a typical nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6 and Care Partner ratio of 1:10. The environment on our unit is moderately fast-paced, patient-centered, personalized, and quality-driven. We care for adult and geriatric patients who are hospitalized for a variety of medical conditions. Some of the most frequent diagnoses are: cardiac, pulmonary, DVT, TIA/Stroke, kidney disease, diabetes, and sepsis. Our patients are unique because of the variety of diagnoses and individualized needs each patient requires.
One of the perks of working on my unit is it is very upbeat and has high quality, employee, and patient experience scores. There is excellent teamwork among all members of the staff. Our nurses are successful because they have compassion, dedication, and loyalty to their patients and to each other. We orient new nurses to our unit by placing them with a preceptor and tailoring their orientation to their individual needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum. Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis. Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes. TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully search for evidence to answer clinical questions.
