S/he is expert in the WOCN standards of practice. S/he is accountable for developing and leading programs for improvement in WOCN related outcomes. Programs include, but not limited to reduction in Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPI), enhancing clinical nurses' knowledge related to WOCN and HAPI prevention, and other outcome data surrounding wound and ostomy patient care as needed. This work includes the involvement of key stakeholders such as clinical nurses and others involved or impacted by the program. As part of program management, s/he oversees the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of related data to various stakeholder groups. S/he is an expert clinician and provides recommendations regarding managing and delivering quality, cost effective patient and family centered care specifically, in the areas of Wound Ostomy and Continence Care. S/he participates in strategic planning, management and operation of the Nursing Department, ensuring quality patient care for patients in the following age groups: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The ND WOCN evaluates the success of wound ostomy care programs and monitors the quality and continuity of care formally and informally through data analysis, direct observation, chart review, one to one interaction, and/or collaboration with the health care team, Administrators, Multidisciplinary Practice, or Manager. The ND WOCN will also assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.
