Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission of the facility. The Registered Nurse is a surgical team member who is responsible for coordinating and controlling the multi-disciplinary activities required to provide a safe environment for patients undergoing surgical intervention. The Registered Nurse is responsible for utilization of the nursing process in all aspects of the delivery of patient care and completion of all activities according to established policies, procedures, and protocol.

Pay: $29 - $38 per hour ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining clinical, communication and personal knowledge and skills required to meet the challenge of delivering safe and effective patient care.Organizes a plan of care that incorporates physician prescribed treatments, nursing assessments and diagnostic data in a manner that is appropriately prioritized, timely, and integrated with the surgical plan of care. Gathers supplies, x-rays, and instruments/equipment for cases, as needed.Completes all necessary IVs in timely and efficient manner.Knowledgeable of good principles of aseptic techniques and AORN standards and guidelines, implementing in day-to-day practice within the OR.Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including the ability to obtain, interpret, and communicate information in terms of the patient's needs, a knowledge of growth and development, and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by all age groups.Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with patients, family members and co-workers. Utilizes appropriate lines of communication. Acts as patient advocate in meeting physical and psychological needs. Demonstrates ability to recognize and intervene in stressful situations involving the patient, family members, or team members.Brings patient to OR and prepares patient for surgery.Makes certain patient's chart is complete prior to going into OR, i.e., consent, labs, pregnancy tests, etc.Position's patient properly using AORN standards and guidelines with special consideration of potential tissue and nerve injury risks associated with anesthetized patients. Positioning is completed under the supervision of the anesthesia staff and/or surgeon.Coordinates all activities within the OR to provide for a non-eventful, safe, effective, and timely surgical intervention.Ensures all specimens have been placed for dispatch and entered in the specimen log.Documents and records patient peri-operative assessment, intra procedural care and status, post procedural for report to recovery room nurse.Performs proper medical waste disposal.Direct and assist surgical technician in preparing for the surgical procedure according to established procedure and the Surgeon's preference card.Communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient care.Performs physical assessments of patients according to care plan.Delivers a patient condition report to the nurse in the Recovery area to identify problems or potential problems, as well as identify any dressings.Inspect rooms and proceed to preparation for the next case, as assigned.Prepares patient for discharge by evaluating patient progress for achievement of outcomes/discharge criteria, providing discharge instructions to the patient/family member.Functions as PACU nurse by implementing orders for post-anesthesia care of patients. Implements standing orders for critical care emergencies. Demonstrates knowledge of critical care medications and administers them properly according to policy and protocol. Changes patient plan of care as needed to meet outcomes, and documents patient care in a legible manner, according to guidelines and protocol, and with content accurately and thoroughly reflecting patient condition.Serves as admission/discharge nurse by completing admission as evidenced by ongoing chart review.Provides education according to the specific knowledge/skill level to meet patient's ongoing health needs, including safe and effective use of medication and food-drug interaction, if applicable; safe and effective use of medical equipment, if appropriate, when, and how to obtain further treatment. Validates ability of the patient/family member to manage continuing care needs after discharge through post-op phone calls.Participates in performance improvement initiatives and assists in monitoring, evaluating, and improving effectiveness of the center by utilizing resources in a cost-effective manner and assisting with the development and achievement of performance improvement goals and objectives.Completes annual mandatory training by the due date assigned.Other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, associate degree in nursing required from an accredited nursing school program.Active state RN license in good standing.BLS Certification.One to three years' experience in the ORPHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
