Be the difference.Job SummaryProvides timely, accurate and compassionate clinical assessment and care, intervention and documentation for patients that have been sexually assaulted. Responsibilities include but are not limited to a forensic examination, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, photographic documentation, developing a safety plan before patients discharge, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up and support and participation in legal proceeding while maintaining chain of custody. Collaborates with medical and nursing staff, law enforcement, solicitors, protective services, advocates and other agencies as needed. Serves as resource to hospital staff regarding sexual assault patients while at work. After hire, completion of SANE-A (adolescent/adult) class including the 40-hour didactic training and all clinical requirements associated with SANE-A training. This job requires staff to be scheduled for a significant amount of on-call work including eve/nights, weekends and holidays. Be the difference.Provides comprehensive forensic examination and nursing care to those patients that have been sexually assaulted and provide oversight of care delegated to other members of the health care team. Collaborates with the patient, family and other members of the health care team to formulate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the plan of care based on data collected from knowledge of the biological, physical, spiritual, behavioral, and psycho-social assessment of the patient.Documents medical history and pertinent data of the patient. Maintains documentation, evidence and files that will assist in any subsequent investigation of forensic cases. Maintains chain of custody for each sexual assault exam and adheres to evidence protocols.Coordinates the care of patients through the forensic examination and any judicial processes related to the resolution of any related criminal proceeding.Provides courtroom testimony as a fact or expert witness as needed. Works in conjunction with the District Attorney to ensure SANE nurse preparedness for court appearances/testimony.Works in conjunction with the community Advocacy Center and law enforcement agencies when providing SANE exams. Works with the advocates of crisis centers to ensure all follow-up appointments and agency referrals are made for the patient and families and that they understand what is needed and available to them before they leave the facility and get discharged. Maintains close working relationship with the SANE Coordinator and members of the county SART (Sexual Assault Response Team).Participates in an on-call schedule as determined by the ETC Director and responds to designated facilities in Prisma Health System-wide areas within the approved time. Participates in 75% of staff meetings. Attends training and workshops as approved for Prisma Health. Attends continuing education for FNE and participates in community awareness programs and professional organizations. Participates in chart reviews, mentoring, and ongoing education. Signs up for 48 hours of call each month which can be broken down in 12-hour shifts.Coordinates and prepares community and Prisma Health system programs with lead Forensic Nurse.Works to complete certification for SANE-A within 2 years and SANE-P training within 2 years.After hire, completion of SANE-A (adolescent/adult) class including the 40-hour didactic training and all clinical requirements associated with SANE-A training.
