Position SummaryThe Rehab Technician provides restorative care in Long Term Care (LTC) under the direct supervision of the Rehab Manager. Assists LTC residents with their home exercise program interventions. These interventions aim to improve or maintain residents' function related to ADLs, mobility, range of motion, and comfort promoting independent and safe living.
The Rehab Tech is a collaborative member of the team that supports physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists, including but not limited to administrative tasks, chart preparation, document management, answering calls, and office duties. Additional responsibilities include welcoming patients, ensuring satisfaction, scheduling, cleaning equipment, and other tasks to assist the Rehab department.
Performance Requirements / ResponsibilitiesAssist residents and patients safely and comfortably according to care plan, nursing and rehab staff instructions.Perform duties per hospital policies and recognized standards.Maintain good infection control and cleanliness standards within assigned duty areas.Physical DemandsGood physical and mental health. Constant standing and working during work periods. Turning, stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting to assist patients, make beds, move equipment, and perform other related tasks. Finger and hand dexterity to handle delicate instruments and other equipment. Visual and hearing acuity to detect changes in patient's condition.
Special DemandsGenuine interest in patient care and maintaining confidentiality.Patience and tact in dealing with residents, patients, families, and visitors.Ability to recognize patient symptoms and respond appropriately.May be exposed to communicable diseases. Works under general supervision.Must show initiative and judgment in recognizing symptoms related to patient or resident reaction to treatments.QualificationsEducation: High school graduate or equivalent. Must be willing to complete an in-person and virtual training program that satisfactorily passes skills competency checkoff within an established timeframe. Must have good general technology skills that include prior experience with data entry. Highly organized, follow-through, and communication skills are required. Must be committed to meet high-quality standards, maintain confidentiality of patient information according to HIPAA standards or higher. This position demands rigorous attention to detail, a high level of collaboration with a team focus, and a high level of professionalism.
Must be able to pass a State of Alaska background check and drug screen (including Marijuana).TrainingCNA experience preferred but not required.
Responsibility of Rehab Tech in LTCComplete initial training and maintain body of knowledge for assisting with prescribed home exercise programs.Administer activities specific to resident needs and their established care plans.Perform transfers, bed mobility, positioning, and range of motion (passive / active).Ensure the placement of devices/equipment (e.g., splints, positioning devices).Assist with turning and positioning.Notify the Charge Nurse or appropriate therapy discipline of problems, referrals, and reassessment needs.
