Remote Camp Operations Manager - Manh Choh in Tok, AlaskaJob Description The Remote Camp Operations Manager is responsible for the overall performance management of their assigned area of responsibility which will include both Food Service and Housekeeping Departments. This Operations Manager will ensure NMS standards, policies and procedures are upheld, while building and maintaining healthy, effective relationships with clients, customers and employees.
Responsibilities Provides management and oversight of an assigned group of remote camp activities.Functions as a primary resource for NMS Food Service and Housekeeping employees within assigned unit.Acts as a backup resource for other areas as requested.Responsible for delivering and tracking performance within assigned area to meet key performance indicators.Coaches and develops employees within their organization within the framework of formal coaching and succession planning.Advances all elements of NMS performance excellence strategy in the context of continuous improvement.Facilitates and supports a "One Team" relationship dynamic within the NMS organization.Directs and coordinates the delivery of those NMS services as assigned.Develops and implements comprehensive business plans required by assigned activities.Establishes and implements an organized system of supervision and formal operating procedures.Ensures all assigned activities comply with sound business practices as well as NMS's internal and external business requirements.Monitors and ensures compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements.Meets with clients/customers to maintain business relationships, market products, and resolve problems.Leads, directs and communicates with staff to keep them informed and motivated.Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all assigned employees are defined and understood.Assigns tasks to workers and inspects completed work for conformance to standards.Develops operating budget and operates within that budget.Approves assigned area's budget expenditures.Develops bid material and establishes cost and manpower templates for catering contracts for new clients.Develops menus and scope of work for bid proposals.Supports an active and comprehensive safety and CI program.Demonstrates remarkable skills in structuring assigned activities, management teamwork, communications, and operational efficiencies.Handles changing business needs, decision making, and problem-solving skills.Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages various subordinate Managers, Supervisors and assigned employees, including interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.At least two (2) years of formal college training related to the business field (candidates without any college must have two (2) additional years of related managerial experience).At least seven (7) years of related service based, hospitality, food service, housekeeping, hotel or remote camp management experience including at least two (2) years of significant overall supervisory responsibilities.Reliable and dependable attendance in a remote setting.Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are not limited to: criminal background check, drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test.Must be able to live in dormitory style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.Contract requires employees to read, write, speak and understand English.Must be able to perform each of the essential duties listed above with a professional degree of competency.Requires a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years.Proven success at managing multiple tasks, projects and subordinates.Proficiency in planning and organization.Demonstrated understanding of profit attainment and profit growth.Strong ability to lead, build diverse teams and oversee training.Personal maturity and poise; the ability to remain composed under pressure, to make sound decisions, and to manage diversity.Personal drive and energy — a liking of challenges and opportunities to innovate.Computer literacy including competence in Microsoft applications and web-based applications.Working knowledge of general accounting principles and current NMS accounting policies.Strong communication skills, in both written and verbal forms.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Weather: Indoors/Outdoors – Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
Description of environment: Remote camp setting.
Physical requirements Ability to lift 25 lbs. from floor to knuckle.Ability to lift 25 lbs. from floor to waist.Ability to carry 25 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 50 feet.Ability to functionally squat, self-paced but continuous.Ability to kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence for each knee, self-paced but continuous.Ability to climb up and down 12 steps for a total of 48 steps, self-paced.Ability to climb up and down 12 steps for a total of 24 steps while carrying 25 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced.NMS Core Values Safety guides our behavior.
