Responsibilities Our Underwriting internship program provides you the opportunity to gain knowledge of workers' compensation insurance underwriting and underwriting operations principles by working closely with a team of underwriting professionals. You will assist our underwriting professionals in making risk bearing decisions, complete various underwriting tasks, and uphold our customer experience brand of Ridiculously Fast, Amazingly Easy. You will interface with customers via phone, instant messaging, or email and participate in team or individual projects. You will continue to develop technical skills and behavioral competencies, and seek cross-functional learning opportunities.
As an Underwriting Intern, you will fulfill the primary responsibilities of the role by executing the following duties and tasks: Assist underwriters with reviewing and evaluating workers compensation insurance applications to determine acceptance or denial of risks to promote company profitability Communicate with agents, brokers and policyholders to provide service and solutions to their underwriting and policy inquiries Work closely with supervisor and trainers on assignments, and manage competing priorities to be accountable for delivering results Demonstrate ownership of assignments to complete them within expected timelines, and communicate any issues preventing completion with your team lead, and participate in solutions to resolve and overcome the issues Complete technical underwriting training to gain authority and other responsibilities Learn about and use data analysis to identify opportunities for efficiencies in process and product Display initiative to generate solutions in both everyday work, as well as projects Qualifications Ability to incorporate training into real-world situations Strong customer orientation, including strong interpersonal, communication, organization and consultation skills Ability to work in a cross-functional environment Strong discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information Strong analytical and quantitative skills Develop relationships within the organization and demonstrate an ability to deliver on commitments and expectations Education Pursuing a Bachelor's degree Additional Requirements Low level of domestic U.S. travel required (up to 5% of time)
