Summary
As the R&D Manager of Protein Chemistry, you will manage the team that is responsible for delivering new reagents to enable new biological workflows.
Primary Responsibilities Manage an interdisciplinary team of Ph.D. level chemists and engineers to deliver new reagents and assays to enable biological workflows on various platforms.Drive R&D efforts to deliver reagents to enable new assays and protein characterization capabilities (western blot, IEF, SDS PAGE, SPR). Examples of reagents include surface chemistry reagents, critical raw materials, and functionalized microparticles.Master in protein (HRP, AP, Acridinium, Biotin) and microparticle conjugation.Lead direct reports in the characterization and testing of new reagents. Design appropriate functional tests on various platforms to validate reagent and assay performance.Recommend lead reagent and assay candidates for additional testing by internal partners.Work with internal teams to perform workflow testing on new reagents once lead candidates have been selected. Modify R&D directions and activities based upon the data.Oversee the technology transfer of new reagents from R&D to Manufacturing, including relevant documentation and appropriate quality control (QC) procedures. Support the scale-up of reagent manufacturing.Collaborate with suppliers to synthesize custom reagents and to characterize reagents using appropriate analytical techniques, as needed.Work with other groups within the company to make progress on development programs.Provide professional development and learning opportunities for direct reports. Act as a mentor to team members. Provide constructive coaching and timely performance feedback. Conduct formal reviews with team members.Model technical problem-solving leadership to resolve issues that arise in R&D and be responsible for completing projects on time.Collaborate with team members to design thorough, hypothesis-driven experiments to solve problems. Conduct careful, rigorous science. Make data-driven decisions and adjust technical directions as needed.Influence decisions to be made by core teams and executive management based upon the data and information available at the time.Present project updates and new R&D findings to executive management and relevant stakeholders.Manage timelines, budgets, and resources to complete objectives. Create resource plans for ongoing and future development programs. Write job requisitions and hire staff as needed. We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day.
