Project Abstracts: Opioids have historically been used to address chronic pain regardless of underlying cause or severity. While opioids may offer short term pain relief, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that opioid treatment provides prolonged benefits to individuals with chronic pain. Minnesotans have suffered tremendously from the opioid epidemic, with MDH data from 2021 indicating a 35% increase in the total number of overdose deaths involving opioids since 2020. This number of deaths has more than doubled since 2019 with American Indian Minnesotans ten times and Black Minnesotans more than three times as likely to die from a drug overdose than white Minnesotans. Rural counties throughout MN have some of the highest overdose rates. Given the parallel crises of chronic pain and opioid misuse, there is a need to shift our approach toward pain management and address social drivers of health. There is strong evidence for the use of integrative mind/body therapies and Non-Pharmacological Pan Care (NPPC) strategies for people with OUD and/or chronic pain, with better outcomes and less harmful side effects than opioids. This collection of programs will impact he Opioid crisis in MN through community-focused NPPC initiatives within Hennepin County (HoW), strategic partnerships through sub-awards to organizations positioned to have the biggest impact on historically underserved communities at highest risk of OUD (TLC-Wow), and statewide Project ECHO healthcare worker trainings on Integrative Pain Care, Trauma Informed Care, Addiction Medicine, Health Equity, workforce development and more.

IRB drafting as needed Research consent form drafting as needed Anticipated outcomes of TLC-WoW include: Successful training, mentorship, and implementation of holistic chronic pain management care for 3-4 Sub-Awardee organizations throughout the state of MN. Outcome measures will include # of people served, attendance at GMV's, and PROMIS-29 and qualitative questionnaires. Anticipated outcomes for Project ECHO include: I mprove health outcomes and reduce health disparities across the state of MN for people who experience chronic pain, trauma, and/or addiction Outcome measures will include attendance at ECHO sessions and a Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) questionnaire for participants All research and outcome programs will require an IRB approval. Essential Job Functions: Initiate, receive and capture all data collection for HoW, TLC-WoW, and ECHO MN Coordinate directly with TLC-WoW Sub-Awardees for data collection Maintain all records, coordinate meetings and assist the PI/Co-PI in ordering, invoicing, and reporting.
