Job Description
A Research Assistant is being sought to support projects in the lab of Dr. Freitas-Lemos (https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/research/labs/freitas-lemos.html ) at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. This position involves some management duties, such as supply ordering and management, participant scheduling, and research duties. Projects in the lab include behavioral economic methods, such as the Experimental Tobacco Marketplace (ETM) to provide critical insights into the effects of new regulations or tobacco products on consumption patterns and substitution among different populations.

The goals of the lab include:
1) investigating the impact of tobacco-related efforts on initiation, continued use, and cessation among individuals facing tobacco-related cancer health disparities
2) developing and testing innovative policies and treatment strategies aimed at eliminating tobacco use and its unequaled harms.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented person who enjoys interacting with others, being a key part of a diverse and active scientific environment, learning new techniques, and managing multiple project duties. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in public health initiatives and cancer research as preparation for graduate school or medical school if desired.

Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in a professional setting
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Demonstrate solid detail orientation skills
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team
• Prior research experience in nutrition, psychology, neuroscience or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
• Coursework or training in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a related field
• Working experience in an academic/research setting
