Stanford University is seeking a Research Data Analyst 1 to manage and analyze large amounts of information, typically technical or scientific in nature, under the direction of project researchers, investigators, or managers. This position within the Division of Thoracic Surgery will support health services and clinical research activities within the division. Research within the Division investigates both short-term and long-term outcomes of patients with thoracic surgical conditions. These studies involve both data regarding patients treated at Stanford and multi-institutional de-identified datasets. The general purpose of this research is to conduct health services studies on management and outcomes for thoracic malignancies. This position is for an individual who will work with Thoracic Surgery faculty and other research staff in supporting clinical research efforts, including data management, literature review, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation and revision. Bachelor's degree and previous experience in clinical research is required. Demonstration of meaningful contribution to research that led to peer-reviewed publications is preferred. Knowledge of and experience with PC word processing, database software, and statistical analysis software is also required. Basic knowledge of human anatomy and thoracic malignancies is necessary. A college degree in Math, Biology, or laboratory-based sciences is desired.
Duties include: Collect, manage and clean datasets.Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to data and reporting requirements.Develop reports, charts, graphs, and tables for use by investigators and for publication and presentation.Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection and analysis methods.Assist in grant writing and submission.Desired Qualifications: Must be able to carry out routine tasks after direction from Thoracic Surgical attending.Must be able to work independently to prioritize tasks and determine when supervisor assistance or notification is required.Responsible for liaising with Thoracic Surgical attending and research staff on study-related issues.Responsible for coordinating with Thoracic Surgical attending and other research staff in ensuring that study-related tasks are completed by planned internal deadlines, and work in coordination with staff to identify and address issues that arise related to the studies.Education & Experience (Required): Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required): Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.Strong writing and analytical skills.Ability to prioritize workload.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and good judgment.Basic knowledge of human anatomy and thoracic malignancies.Experience and interest in clinical database software and statistical software preferred.Previous experience in performing clinical research studies, including demonstrated experience with independent statistical analysis and successful support of studies to publication preferred.Physical Requirements: Sitting in place at a computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.Occasionally use a telephone.Rarely writing by hand.Working Conditions: Some work may be performed in a laboratory or field setting.Working Standards: Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.Subject to and expected to comply with all applicable University policies and procedures, including but not limited to the personnel policies and other policies found in the University's Administrative Guide.The expected pay range for this position is $66,560 to $97,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
