About the Institute for Matter and Systems The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS ), an interdisciplinary research institute at the Georgia Institute of Technology, is a home for research on novel materials and devices, incorporation of these into systems, and their application and impact on society. IMS fabrication (cleanroom) and materials characterization facilities are open to external (non-Georgia Tech) researchers through the SENIC site of the NSF-funded National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI). Location Atlanta, GA Job Summary Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) is seeking a scientist or engineer to help recruit and support external users (primarily) of the research facilities. Responsibilities The position will interact with students, faculty, staff, and external researchers from academia and industry. This position will not have any immediate direct reports. Occasional travel is required. Other responsibilities includes: Develop a strategic approach to new user recruitment and conduct outreach to potential external academic, industry, and government research facility users. Develop marketing materials and serve as a point of contact for new potential users. Visit potential user institutions and/or attend conferences as appropriate. Coordinate outreach activities with SENIC partner institutions. Manage a portfolio of active external user projects. Consult on technical needs, develop budgets, monitor facility usage, and coordinate interactions with the process support team for either in-person or remote usage. Serve as a liaison between external users and the SENIC program manager. Based on specific technical expertise, perform work assignments for external user projects. Coordinate the Catalyst Seed Grant program for external academic users. Participate in the Southeastern Nano Facility Network (SENFN) as part of the Georgia Tech team. Assist with the organization of technical seminars, symposia, and workshops, as needed. Serve as a member of the SENIC leadership team, contributing to site management. Conduct independent research with Georgia Tech faculty/students as appropriate. Required Qualifications This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Research Engineer / Scientist II A Master's degree in science, engineering or related area, and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or A Master's degree in science, engineering or related area, and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or A Doctoral degree Senior Research Engineer / Scientist A Master's degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or A Master's degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or A Doctoral degree and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree Preferred Qualifications Experience working as part of a team in a multi-user environment or serving a large community of users. Experience with university and/or industry research and development including sponsored research agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and intellectual property. A bachelor's degree in a relevant science or engineering field (Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, for example) A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting research in either micro/nanofabrication and/or materials characterization.
