Details of the offer

Full job description BASIC FUNCTION Conduct in depth human factors engineering evaluations of infection prevention practices, guidelines, protocols, and education. Work with the principal investigator (PI) to secure funding. Work independently to design and conduct the human factors engineering evaluations, analyze the data; and develop required reports, abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and presentations to disseminate results. Receive and respond to feedback from the PI. Key areas of responsibility include coding data from prior simulations and observations; conducting observations; entering data into spreadsheets; analyzing the data; comparing and contrasting the results with published data; disseminating the results; identifying new research questions; helping develop research proposals/grants; service; and human resources/supervision of students and other trainees.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Experiments, Simulations, Modeling or Theoretical Investigations: Review literature relevant to human factors engineering issues in infection prevention and related fields, define research problems, and identify key unanswered questions. Generate research plans to address these gaps, including identifying the most appropriate human factors techniques, and data analysis methods. Plan and implement human factors engineering methods and techniques to evaluate and improve: processes of patient care; integration of hand hygiene at appropriate times in care processes; hand hygiene guidelines; personal protective equipment design, selection, and protocols for use, (e.g., donning and doffing protocols). Direct human factors engineering research activities. Research coordination and expertise expansion: Coordinate the team's human factors research activities, including mentoring and supervising graduate and undergraduate students to ensure outcomes are achieved. Stay up to date with advancements in the field of human factors engineer and related disciplines, particularly as related to infection prevention. Continuously explore new research areas and propose innovative approaches to enhance our understanding of human performance in complex systems and compliance with infection prevention guidelines. Work independently on research tasks with oversight by Principal Investigator (PI). Data/Research Analysis and Evaluation: Assess interrater reliability. Analyze data from: personal protective equipment donning and doffing simulations; observations of healthcare providers' processes of care in multiple settings; infection prevention policies, protocols, and education. Code observations from the photos and videos of personal protective equipment donning and doffing simulations and from observations of healthcare providers' processes of care. Perform appropriate statistical analyses of the results. Create charts, graphs, and figures to display the results. Compare and contrast the results with previously published work. Foster collaborations and establish productive partnerships with different colleges and departments within the university. Seek opportunities to collaborate with external organizations, research institutes, and industry partners to advance interdisciplinary research initiatives. Dissemination of Research Results: Prepare abstracts describing the results of human factors engineering studies related to infection prevention for presentation at national meetings. Prepare manuscripts on human factors engineering studies related to infection prevention and submit them for publication in peer reviewed journals. Present results during departmental seminars and at professional meetings. Research Proposals/Grants: Contribute to new or continuing research grant proposals to CDC, AHRQ, other federal agencies, companies, or foundations to obtain funding for research activities pertaining to infection prevention. Serve as an investigator on grants or proposals requiring human factors engineering expertise as applied to infection prevention. Contribute to progress reports required by funding agencies. Supervise adherence to safety and compliance guidelines when necessary. Service: Provide service to the scientific community, University and General Public. Consult and collaborate with the research community. Participate in public outreach activities as required by funding sources. Participate in national meetings within the disciplines of infection prevention and human factors engineering. Human Resources/Supervision: Mentor engineering graduate students design projects, master's degree thesis work, and funded human factors engineering research projects related to infection prevention. May provide functional and/or administrative supervision for staff. Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to students or other trainees to ensure outcomes are achieved. QUALIFICATIONS: Education Required: A Ph.D. degree in HFE, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is required. Required Qualifications: Ten or more years of relevant analytical experience, including a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training is required. Proven experience in overseeing research projects, in addition to mentoring and supervising students or staff is required. Prior experience in addressing human factors engineering issues in healthcare/infection prevention and in industry, preferably in manufacturing processes and fabrication and/or product design is required. Demonstrated ability to define problems, identify research gaps, and propose collaborative solutions related to infection prevention. Proficiency in identifying and applying appropriate research methods (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods) according to research needs and gaps is required. Experience collecting and analyzing complex data sets related to infection prevention and interpreting results collaboratively is required. Proven experience in conducting research using HFE research methods within healthcare settings, especially with projects related to infection prevention is required. In depth knowledge and understanding of HFE structured methods is required. Familiarity with user experience (UX) principles and methodologies, including usability testing and user-centered design is required. Demonstrated ability to write technical reports, abstracts, and manuscripts and to develop and present research talks and posters for internal and external conferences is required. Demonstrated ability to contribute to grant writing and research proposal development for internal and external (e.g., CDC) is required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams when training new team members, developing research plans, grant applications, oral research presentations, posters, and manuscripts, and when conducting research is required. Desired Qualifications: Experience with qualitative research methods techniques, such as observations, interviews, and focus groups. Experience using qualitative and statistical analysis software is highly desirable. Familiarity with funding agencies and the process of securing research grants is desired. Application Process: To be considered for an interview, applicants must upload the following documents and mark them as a "Relevant File" to the submission:
Resume Cover Letter Job openings are posted for a minimum of 14 calendar days and may be removed from posting and filled any time after the original posting period has ended.
