Job Description
The Wang lab in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at Virginia Tech is seeking a full-time research assistant to work on the pathogenesis of staphylococcal infections, extracellular membrane vesicles (MVs), and vaccine development. The successful applicant will be expected to use multiple approaches involved microbiology, molecular and cell biology, and animal models to investigate the biological roles of MVs in S. aureus pathogenesis and to assess the efficiency of vaccine candidate against S. aureus infections. In addition to the research role, the candidate is also expected to have the responsibilities of a Lab Manager include ordering supplies, preparing solutions, organizing and maintaining biosafety records and equipment
Required Qualifications
• Previous experience in bacterial pathogenesis and molecular biology is preferred.
• Ability to work with small animals including handling, restraining, tissue harvesting, monitoring animal welfare.
• Ability to perform molecular cloning, bacterial and cell cultures, DNA and protein electrophoresis, western blot, ELISA analysis.
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in microbiology, infectious diseases, or related field with relevant experience will be considered.
• Previous laboratory experience in bacteria-host interactions, extracellular membrane vesicles, and animal studies
