Research Technologist - Vehicle Integration

In this position...
You will have the opportunity to join a team that plays a significant role in leading the development and testing of next generation electrical architectures and vehicle propulsion systems for future Ford and Lincoln ICE and Electrified Vehicles.

What you'll do...
The Research & Advanced Vehicle Integration Technologist develops, builds, commissions, tests and troubleshoots advanced electrical architectures and propulsion systems for future ICE and Electrified vehicles (HEVs, EVs, Fuel Cell, etc.).
Support project teams (and suppliers) in completing ICE/ZEV prototype vehicle and propulsion system build, commissioning, development testing, troubleshooting and repair tasks (including identification of root cause and resolution of the problem)
Conduct component and subsystem bench testing
Provide low and high voltage electrical system/wiring harness buildup, verification testing, troubleshooting, and repair actions
Lead component/subsystem/vehicle instrumentation & test equipment/hardware setup including data acquisition, operation, and teardown/decommissioning tasks (includes at breadboard lab, dyno, internal/external Ford service garages/development sites, and supplier facilities)
Support vehicle benchmarking studies (lead setup, hoist reviews, teardown, and coordinate vehicle drives)
Manage material logistics – lead short/long term storage operations tasks to disposition new/old inventory (includes communication with all engineering leads and facility stakeholders to resolve and manage ongoing requests) and moving, packing, shipping, sorting, and storing vehicle system hardware, fixtures, tools, and instrumentation
Support procurement tasks (process work and part orders, tracking, managing bill of materials and receiving and delivery of hardware to final customers)
Process vehicle transportation requests
Assist in managing maintenance of all department operations equipment (including charging equipment, tools, instrumentation located in all facilities - breadboard labs, service garages, and dyno facilities) and support/maintain safety operating procedures and complete safety walks.
Vehicle control – assist in managing department test vehicle control system tasks (vehicle tracking, resolving customer concerns, handling new orders, audits, scrap, repairs, drive requests, parking issues, and reconciling budget) 

You'll have... 
Electrical, Mechanical or Automotive Technology Associate Degree or equivalent experience 
3+ years of experience working on HEV/BEV/FCEV vehicles and propulsion systems (includes servicing, troubleshooting, and testing LV/HV electrical systems)
High Voltage certification (Level 1&2) is desirable
Strong knowledge of electrical vehicle architecture, control systems, and software awareness (includes communication protocols – CAN/CANFD/LIN)
Experience reading and modifying electrical wiring schematics and device transmittals, modifying and building low and high voltage wiring harness assemblies, junction boxes and related components
Experience using fabrication and service equipment (includes machine shop tools, EV charging equipment, instrumentation, and garage hoists)
Strong cross functional project team skills (communication, data collection, documentation, basic computer/Microsoft Office skills, ability to multitask, work independently) and be highly motivated to learn on the job and be proactive in identifying issues and finding root cause

Even better, you may have...
Good understanding of low and high voltage electrical systems for electrified vehicles 
Certifications in high voltage safety, hydrogen safety and hydrogen fuel cell high voltage systems
Working knowledge of data acquisition tools 
Working knowledge of Teamcenter to view component and system CAD design/package
Self-directed learning skills with a drive for seeking and implementing process improvement
Ability to author process, procedures, and work instructions
Commercial Driver's License is desirable
