We are currently seeking a passionate individual for the position of Full Time Residential Counselor in our Westbury Community Residence Program. In this crucial role, you will assist individuals in developing independent living skills to increase their self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and self-worth. You will provide hands-on training and assist with the activities of daily living, as well as provide counseling, behavioral intervention, and crisis management for adults living with severe mental illness.
Responsibilities: Participate in the planning/evaluation of individual service plans and monitor plan objectives. Provide hands-on training and assist residents in the activities of daily living while documenting interactions. Accompany residents on recreational outings and travel training exercises. Provide counseling, behavioral intervention, and crisis management. Assist in the day-to-day management of the community residence. Administer the residence in the absence of the Senior Residential Counselor. Notify the Senior Residential Counselor of any medical/psychiatric emergencies. Provide transportation as needed for shopping, medical appointments, etc. Write progress notes on residents' activities daily. Monitor the management of medication. Involved with the cleanliness of the residence. Maintain the cleanliness of the staff office. Advocate for residents' benefits. Teach residents the skills needed to gain independence. Coordinate staff contacts with local service providers as needed to assist residents in accessing services and to plan for discharge jointly. Work with support services on behalf of the residents' best interests. Assist and model various techniques required to maintain a clean and healthy living environment. Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent with related experience required. Bachelor's Degree in Human Services preferred. Related experience working with people living with mental illness or other disabilities that require assistance in daily living highly preferred. Physical Requirements: Sits, stands, stoops, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours; may push or pull 10-15 pounds daily; may push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally. A valid NYS Driver's License in good standing. Shift 1: Monday - Friday 8am-4pm
Shift 2: Monday 10am-8pm, Tuesday 9am-7am, Friday 10am-7:30pm, Saturday 10am-8pm
