Summary
Responsible for modeling the core values of Kearney Regional Medical Center. Serves as a resource person to staff, both clinically and administratively. Serves as the off shift representative of management: that represents and supports management, supervises staff and makes administrative decisions which may involve patients and their families and KRMC staff. Maintains a global perspective as a basis for decision making. Coordinates utilization of resources including staff and equipment. Seeks to enhance quality of care by acting as consultant and mentor for the patient at the bedside. Provides feedback to appropriate management regarding staff and clinical situations as necessary. Contributes to an environment that promotes staff empowerment.
Works closely with Charge Nurse to manage and prioritize the room placement of patients admitted at KRMC.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Continuously readjusts and evaluates staffing to meet care needs during the assigned shift.
Interacts with department directors/managers and physicians on a wide range of issues.
Maintains a global perspective to meet and coordinate the needs of various departments.
Communicates daily with care management regarding admissions and dismissals to various units.
Consults other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient/facility's needs.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by downsizing or upsizing staffing in a budget conscious manner that ensures the maintenance of safe patient care.
Assures that staff has the appropriate tools to provide care; provides supplies in the absence of 24 hour departments.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful conditions.
Ability to identify changes in patient's physical symptoms, provide support to the charge and primary nurse and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
Counsels and manages personnel issues, but not appraisals in the absence of management.
Maintains a good working relationship and effective communication with many departments for the benefit of the patient.
Steps in to fill gaps in staffing as needed, i.e. being the second RN in PACU afterhours, assisting the emergency room with patient influx, assist with starting difficult IVs, pass medications, etc
Recognizes and manages impaired staffing behaviors in the absence of management.
Balances the staffing needs between the units.
Makes decisions reflecting, knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment.
Notifies administration of issues beyond the scope of house supervisor; requiring further investigation.
Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; a self-starter; compatible and supportive; a team player.
Screens patients by comparing patient's condition to admission criteria; evaluating and accepting or rejecting patients; referring patients and family to other programs and institutions; appropriately placing patients.
Resolves patient/family dissatisfactions by investigating concerns; recommending changes in service policies and procedures.
Become trained in ultrasound-guided IV placement
Regulatory Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or current enrollment in BSN program preferred.
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Nebraska.
Current ACLS and BCLS certification.
PALS certification within 1 year of employment.
At least two (2) years of charge nurse experience preferred.
At least two (2) years of experience in critical care nursing preferred.
