ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Clinical Nurse in the TEE lab is a competent registered nurse in this institution and will deliver nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and nursing practice standards. The Clinical Nurses use Nursing Practice Competencies to intervene to achieve safe, optimal patient and family-centered care health outcomes; Leadership Competencies to coordinate patient care and communicate with the Care Team; Professional Profile Competencies to develop professionally as a lifelong learner, and Practice Outcomes Competencies to evaluate care based on evidence, the ULH quality model, and patient safety goals.

The following are Essential Functions for this Role:
Assists Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Cardioversions, and Pharmacologic Stress TEE with Cardiology Attending.IV Insertion.Understands absolute and relative contraindications to TEE testing and screens patients for appropriate indications and contraindications prior to all exams.Administers various medications per MD order.Exhibits knowledge of patient preparation and application of EKG electrodes.Records baseline and recurrent ECG's, Blood Pressure and Patient symptoms throughout the exam and during recovery period.Understands the role of reversal agents for adverse events as directed by the supervising Cardiologist.Competent in various airway management techniques.Assists with saline contrast studies.Ability to perform EKG's and accurate interpretation of the EKG results.Knowledgeable on Dysrhythmias.Works as a resuscitative team member in emergency situations, including administration of IV medications.Assists in the Stress lab as backup to Cardiology RN.Additional Duties as Assigned.QualificationsEDUCATION: BSN preferred. A minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is preferred. Effective May 1, 2014, all new-hire Associate Degree Registered Nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within two years of hire and complete an approved BSN program within five years of hire. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of patient care experience. Cardiology Experience Preferred. LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS: Required: Unrestricted KY RN license required. Current AHA certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required. Preferred: RN-BC National Clinical Nurse Specialty Certification (e.g. CCNS, ACCNS-AG, ACNS-BC, etc.)
