The goal of perioperative nursing practice is to assist patients to achieve a level of wellness equal to or improved from the preoperative level, and to support the patients' family members and significant others during the perioperative period. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supports Wayne Memorial Hospital's vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.
Employee will be required to be readily available to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situation that may arise.
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Maintains current Georgia licensure with renewal as required by Georgia Law. Excellent communication skills, proficient technical ability, detail-oriented, can stand on one's feet for long periods of time, flexibility, works well with others in a team atmosphere, strong critical thinking skills, able to perform well under stress within a fast paced environment and able to carry out multiple tasks at one time
Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: "The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual and potential health alterations." Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to:
Assess, instruct and prepare patients prior to surgery.Ensure all consents are signed and correct.Perform physical assessment, check vital signs, review labs and other preoperative diagnostic tests with a review of the medical history and share any pertinent information with the physician and surgical team.Initiate IV and any ordered medication per policy.Assess patients' post operative condition.Monitor vital signs, change in condition and patient's progress toward meeting discharge criteria.Record information in the electronic medical record and notify the physician of any pertinent condition changes.Facilitate patient's discharge with instructions and education. The successful candidate will be required to pass competencies for this position.
