This individual requires a high level of knowledge and leadership skills to perform, direct, and support all duties required by the Research Team. This includes clinical tasks, regulatory rules and duties, project management and oversight, and staff education. It requires a strong clinical foundation, the ability to successfully manage people, excellent communication skills, and sound problem-solving methods. The role serves to build and bond the research team into a high performing entity that delivers high quality care to its patients, support and assistance to its physicians, and a reputation of distinction to its Institution within the field of clinical research. This position requires an energetic, forward-thinking candidate who accepts daily challenges, and with available resources and a supportive staff, achieves high quality outcomes and work products.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES– Other duties may be assigned. · Exhibits the knowledge, skills, and experience to lead the research staff in the delivery of high-quality research project management and oversight, assuring safe and efficient execution of investigational therapies in compliance with good clinical practice (GCP) standards as required. · Performs knowledgeably in all research clinical areas utilized by NCHRI protocols, demonstrating the ability to problem solve and implement solutions as needed. · Maintains a strong, current understanding of research rules, regulations, and resources to guide project organization, enhance operational compliance, and establish an efficient workflow. · Role model for staff to function as independent, competent researchers and versatile members of the research team. · Leads the overall day to day operations of the Research Institute (RI), providing daily guidance and direction to the clinical staff, enhancing their learning and professional development and building their knowledge and confidence in the execution of their clinical protocols. · Reviews and assesses daily tasks and performance goals to enhance individual and operational success. · Guides, educates, and assists staff in completing individual and departmental work tasks, while promoting teamwork and cooperation. · Enhances operational flow through good communication, anticipation of needs, and advanced planning for team readiness. · Redirects staff assignments as needed, serving as a back-up support for required tasks or patient visits when required. · Communicates with Leadership, identifying departmental and staff needs and providing corrective suggestions and solutions for performance enhancement. · Coaches and supports the development of a strong research staff forming an essential solid foundation upon which to grow and expand. · Facilitates regulatory compliance and understanding. · Engages team in continuous improvement of systems, processes, and resources. · Develops and/or updates standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for research performance. · Sets expectations and performance standards and implements staff productivity measurements. · Responsible for staff performance and evaluations; identifies needs and skills and provides learning opportunity and recognition as applicable. · Effectively facilitates meetings at a departmental and organizational level. · Leads the team through consistent support and encouragement, allowing individuals to grow in confidence and knowledge in assessing tasks independently and executing them accurately and completely. · Promotes teamwork and collaboration among teams and the individuals within each team. · Advocates for strong performance, helps, and maintains accountability of each member. · Encourages and empowers staff to assume and succeed in greater independence in daily tasks. · Demonstrates ability to work across internal departments and with external stakeholders to expand the scope of research. · Works directly with the Research Physicians, Fellows, and Residents to assure strong awareness of protocols and investigator compliance responsibilities; keeps them aware of new research projects, reports on enrollment performance, and communicates regularly with Medical Director of NCHRI. · Promotes Principal Investigator oversight by advising the investigators of patient status, trial status, deviations, issues relevant to the integrity of the trial and/or the safety of research subjects. · Supports the role of the investigators, reminding them of their needed awareness and contribution in existing and upcoming trials. · Keeps them informed during sponsor visits to demonstrate their oversight and involvement. · Supports NCH RI Manager in managing daily activities and building a nationally recognized Research Institute that will proudly represent NCH in the community and the research world at the highest performance level. · Participates with Manager in the development, management, and tracking of operational initiatives with measurable outcomes. · Supports strategic planning exercises that assist in identifying growth opportunities for research project growth. · Participates in the creation of business plans for new services, programs, and their staffing needs. · Enforces fiscal responsibility in daily operations and staffing coverage. · Performs other related duties as needed or required. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS · Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred · At least 2 years of clinical research experience, greater than 5 years as RN with direct patient care nursing experience, active leadership responsibilities in the clinical setting, performed formal staff education and functioned as a nurse preceptor or educator in clinical setting, excellent communication and problem-solving skills · Obtain Clinical Research Certification within 1 year of hire. · Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida. · Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. · Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows · Strong organizational skills
