ABOUT THE ROLE The Rotational Laundry Steward is responsible for overseeing all guest and ship laundry. They are responsible for keeping all laundry areas well stocked and organized. Rotational Laundry Stewards are responsible for complete all guest laundry in a timely and organized manner. In addition, the Rotational Laundry Steward is proficient in all steward operation procedures for housekeeping and dining room and covers seasonal steward's days off. The Rotational Steward will be responsible for training seasonal stewards in the laundry, dining room, and housekeeping procedures. The Rotational Steward works approximately 12 hours per day, on a rotational schedule of approximately 2 months on, 1 month off. RESPONSIBILITIES:
\n Cabin CleaningWorks with Seasonal Stewards in commercial and guest laundry.Picks up and delivers guests personal laundry in a timely and organized fashion. Ensures guest laundry is completed, properly pressed, and returned in the maximum 24-hour time frame.Works with the Purser to ensure correct billing of guest laundry.Assists as needed with all ship's laundry needs including towels, sheets and all other linens.Ensures that the laundry room is well stocked with supplies and communicates with Chief Stewards to order supplies as needed. Keeps the laundry room and all laundry storage spaces clean and organized. Responsible for basic maintenance of laundry machines such as cleaning lint trapsMay be asked to assist in galley if needed or with any special events deemed necessary by Hotel Manager or Chief Stewards. May assist with cleaning assigned guest, officer or staff cabins; make beds, clean sinks, mirrors, showers, windows, toilet, empty trash, dust, vacuum, deodorize, and change towels per guest request, etc. Train stewards to meet company and regulatory standards.Adheres to all CDC Vessel Sanitation Program & Health Canada requirementsSafety & SecurityParticipates in on board safety training, meetings, and drills, as directed by the Captain. Including fire, abandon ship, man overboard, flooding, and medical emergencies.Complies with all CDC and Health Canada Vessel Sanitation requirements.Participates in shore side training as required by the company. Familiar with the ISM codes and requirements.Maintains familiarity with all duties under the company Safety Management System and Emergency Station Billet Duties.Additional DutiesServes as a member of the emergency team.May need to assist in Housekeeping, per Chief Steward and Hotel Manager request.May assist in the dining room when needed. DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSExperience with housekeeping, hotel industry, preferred.Good verbal communication skills.Good customer service skills; professional demeanor, ability to use necessary levels of tact and courtesy.Detail oriented and thorough; able to follow through on assigned tasks.Ability to work independently using initiative and creativity to complete assigned tasks.Strong time management skills; able to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.Work well under pressure.Ability to get along well with co-workers and support a team environment.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Licenses/CertificatesCurrent First Aid/CPR certification required.US Passport required.Alcohol Server Training (OLCC) required.STCW Basic Safety Training preferred.STCW Crowd Management preferred.Physical exam
\nEmployment is contingent on the following: - In compliance with U.S. Coast Guard Regulations, 46 CFR Parts 4, 5, and 16, you will be required to undergo the following drug tests: post-offer prior to start date, random, reasonable cause, and serious marine incident per US Federal guidelines. - Pre-offer background check; employment is contingent upon the results of this screening. - Post-offer physical examination; your employment is dependent upon being determined fit for sea duty. Continued employment is dependent upon consent to and passing these tests. Communication Skills Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos. Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate--both in writing and orally--with a professional demeanor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee will also be required to write and type. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The physical demands per position are described in the Job Analysis sheet and are available to all applicants upon request. COMPENSATION STATEMENT Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living. For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant's location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
