Austin Powder is seeking to hire a full-time Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager to join our team at our Red Diamond Manufacturing plant in McArthur, Ohio .
POSITION PURPOSE The Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager is responsible for maintain the License to Operate by ensuring regulatory compliance with all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations for the Red Diamond Plant in McArthur, Ohio. The manager will serve as a subject matter expert on all safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements. They will be responsible for managing compliance with regulations pertaining to air and water quality, overseeing waste management, managing spill response, and overseeing the site wastewater treatment facilities operations.
The Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager is responsible for escalating issues to site and company leadership, accurate and timely reporting to agencies, and reviewing of site projects from a Safety, Health, and Environmental ( SHE ) aspect. The position is responsible for the SHE compliance of a 2,000 acre complex with 50 various use buildings, which support production of chemically manufactured energetic materials and packaged explosives used in commercial applications.
The Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager works closely with plant management, engineers, maintenance, operations, and corporate support functions. The manager will oversee activities of the safety, health, and environmental team as well as work with regulators and 3rd party consultants to achieve and maintain full compliance. This position will have approximately 5 direct reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to uphold the company's mission, vision, and values. Promote safety awareness in both work practices and company culture. Ensure the License to Operate by adhering to compliance with federal, state, local, and Austin Powder Company requirements Champion the implementation of any site and corporate SHE procedures, policies, guidelines, and training. Work with Training Coordinator to develop and maintain all SHE training needs, including specialized safety training (e.g., Confined Space, LOTO, Fall Protection, other) and recurring site employee refresher training as required. Oversee Wastewater Treatment facilities' operations and personnel Perform regular audits of SHE programs Liaise with regulators as appropriate Review and provide guidance on new site projects from a safety, health, and environmental basis Proactively work with operations on SHE related issues Maintain knowledge of current best practices and changes in regulations/policies. Drive prompt unplanned event investigations and complete internal and external reporting requirements Ensure compliance with all EPA environmental permits (Non-Title V, NPDES, RCRA) and OSHA regulations Oversee waste management program by working with Environmental Technician Ensure timely environmental reporting and review reporting for completeness and accuracy Maintain and update emergency response and contingency plans, health and safety plans Maintain incident/injury records and report on SHE metrics working closely with SHE Technician Assist in the development of SHE KPIs EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or a related field Minimum of 6 years professional experience in environmental, health, and safety in a manufacturing environment Minimum of 1 year experience working closely with industrial wastewater treatment facility operations SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Knowledgeable in government regulations, including EPA, DHS, ATF, NFPA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies as they apply to the facility. Strong environmental compliance background (wastewater, air, hazardous waste) Strong understanding of wastewater treatment principles and operations Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail. Work with all management levels to effectively implement SHE programs and requirements. Ability to communicate with employees at all levels. Computer skills including Proficiency in Microsoft software programs. Willingness to "roll up the sleeves" to get the job done. Able to work alongside crew members to achieve goals. Must be able to perform lifting, climbing ladders, carrying tools and equipment routinely. Strong work ethic and desire to take ownership and drive results. Demonstrate strong safety ethic and conduct all work in compliance of OSHA standards. Decisive and able to make high-quality decisions, even when based on incomplete information or in the face of uncertainty. Readily able to distinguish between what's relevant and what's unimportant to make sense of complex situations. Knowledge of OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations preferred WORK ENVIRONMENT This position requires up to 10% travel. Position is located in McArthur OH - relocation available Must be able to perform lifting, climbing ladders, carrying tools and equipment Ability to work overtime and off-shift schedule as needed to support the plant in training, during project start-ups, and to oversee unplanned event response Job Posted by ApplicantPro
