School Climate and Community Grant CoordinatorReports to: Chief Student Services Officer or Designee
General Definition of Work: The School Climate Coordinator will play a critical role in improving student performance by ensuring the school creates and maintains a positive learning environment focusing on the support and development of each student.
Essential Functions: Plans, schedules, and facilitates community engagement and educational eventsServes on the School Support Team participating in implementation effortsWorks closely with other key staff members to implement the plan for school climate and cultureEstablishes an integrated system of interventions and strategies, communicated to all staff, that promotes student engagement in the learning environmentDevelops partnerships with the community through enhanced communication and outreachIncreases use of volunteers in schools, integration of service learning, and opportunities for members of business and local government to connect with students and the schoolsRegularly surveys students, staff, families, and community members regarding school climate and creates opportunities for staff members to participate in professional learning communities (PLC) specific to Climate and CultureEvaluates school policies to determine if they are supportive of a comprehensive system that encourages students to be engaged (feeling a sense of belonging, connectedness, and competency); address barriers to learning and teaching, and re-engage studentsProvides and coordinates professional development for teachers and staff on best practices related to positive climate and culture within schoolsUses the school's climate assessment and improvement efforts as a method to coordinate academic, behavioral, and home-school-community initiativesWorks collaboratively with the division Dropout Prevention and Intervention Committee to analyze all academic, discipline, and attendance data monthly, documenting specific trends and recommendations for specific and targeted interventionsCoordinates support sessions for teachers and instructional support staff inclusive of effective instruction and lesson delivery, mentoring, and coachingObserves classrooms to gather data on best practices for school culture and climate trendsWorks collaboratively with administrators and staff to develop a strategic implementation plan for improving school climate and cultureWorks with staff to develop a system for measuring school culture and climate improvements including, but not limited to, assessment of attendance data, discipline data, student achievement data, and climate survey responsesProvides professional development to school leaders, family, and staff designed to increase their skill level in developing academic, social, and emotional support for studentsPrepares, reports, and maintains a coaching portfolioDevelops a system to consistently support and monitor the progress of students who are struggling with attendance, academics, or behaviorFacilitates the successful re-entry of students upon completion of out-of-school suspensions, placements, or homebound by facilitating student/teacher re-entry meetingsOther duties as apparent or assignedEducation and Job Experience: Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with students, teachers, staff, families, and the communityKnowledge of classroom management, student engagement, and school climate and culture development strategiesKnowledge of human developmentKnowledge of curriculum and instructional practicesClassroom teacher experience preferredRequirements: Demonstrated knowledge of school climate research and policiesAbility to provide leadership and manage complex projectsExperience coaching or managing others preferredExperience in developing curriculum and leading professional developmentExceptional interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to collect and analyze data to drive school improvementPassion for supporting all children to increase student success and positive outcomesActive Virginia Teaching License requiredMaster's Degree preferredContract Period: 11 Months
