The School Nurse does this by providing preventative health services to facilitate students' optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development.

WHAT YOU'LL DO QUANTITATIVE OUTCOMES By October 31, 100% of students have up-to-date immunization records (or appropriate waivers or notifications of deficiency) on file with at least 95% of students having immunizations.Within 60 days of the start of school (approximately October 1), 100% of all PK students have received the appropriate vision and hearing screenings.By Labor Day, 100% of all students in grades K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th have vision, hearing, and growth screenings.At least 5 times a year, create and deliver learning sessions to parents, students, or staff to inform them about health issues, solutions, and resources. QUALITATIVE OUTCOMES Plan and implement school health management protocols.Develop procedures and provide for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses.Serve as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction.Coordinate school and community health activities and serve as a liaison health professional between the home, school, and community.Create Emergency Health Plans for students in need.Create Individualized Healthcare Plans for students in need.Participate in IEP plan development and meetings when appropriate.Work collaboratively with other school nurses to develop training programs for ReNEW staff.Obtain students' health history, review and evaluate history and provide health assessments (with a special focus on students with who are prescribed medication, including, but not limited to asthma, seizures, diabetes, and other identified health needs).Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate the individual needs of students.Screen and evaluate findings of deficit in vision, hearing, growth, etc.Provide ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel, or health agencies.Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care for students. WHAT YOU BRING In addition to the expectations listed above, you will bring the following to your school and students: Required Qualified to practice as a nurse (including LPN or RN) in the state of Louisiana and holds an unrestricted licenseAt least two years of experience in pediatric nursingBasic life support certificationExperience working with school-aged children and/or teenagersStrong interpersonal skillsCommitment to working with children, their families, and school team members Preferred Qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Louisiana and holds an unrestricted licensePrior experience in urban communities preferredFlexibility and autonomy to provide for students and staff.
