JOB TITLE: School Psychologist IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education and Related Services GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The school psychologist applies knowledge and experience in learning, behavior, and mental health to help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Collaborates with teachers, parents, and school personnel to analyze and problem-solve students concerns. Provides specialized assistance through the use of consultation; observation; data collection and interpretation; curriculum-based measures; standardized assessments; behavioral assessments; threat and risk assessments; crisis intervention; counseling; research-based academic and behavioral recommendations; and staff development. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Actively participates on school-based student support / child study teams and special education committees. Reviews information; collects and analyzes data; and collaborates with educators, parents, and/or students to tailor and monitor interventions to meet the learning, behavioral, and/or social-emotional needs of students. Selects, administers, and interprets scientifically validated psychological and/or psychoeducational assessments to effectively respond to the reason for the referral; identifies the individual strengths and weaknesses of students; and determines eligibility for special education services. Effectively and efficiently communicates assessment results to parents and school-based teams through written reports and verbal presentations. Serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary team by attending and/or facilitating meetings, discussing evaluation findings with team members, and making appropriate recommendations. Demonstrates knowledge of special education disability categories by making legally and ethically defensible eligibility recommendations to school-based teams. Demonstrates knowledge of local, state, and federal legal requirements and policies governing special education and Section 504. Manages and maintains organization of caseload to meet legal timelines. Provides individual and/or group counseling interventions to address the unique learning, behavioral, and/or social-emotional needs of students that adversely impact them within the school setting. Directly assists school personnel with crisis response and intervention. Demonstrates skills to assess students for imminent risk of harm and makes referrals to appropriate community agencies and/or specialists when needed. Provides in-service training as needed/requested to assist school personnel to meet the learning and/or mental health needs of students. Responsible for developing Plans of Care and providing documentation required for Medicaid billing. Performs other duties as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Ed.S and/or equivalent Master's Degree in School Psychology with an additional one year school psychology internship. Must have or be eligible for a Virginia Board of Education Pupil Personnel Services License with an Endorsement in School Psychology. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, pushing, and pulling, use of hands to grasp, handle or feel, fine manipulation, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of office equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
