School Psychologist Job Description Inver Grove Heights, MN Position : School Psychologist Job Summary : We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Psychologist to join our team. The School Psychologist will work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators to support student academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of educational psychology, the ability to perform assessments, and experience developing effective interventions to improve student outcomes. Key Responsibilities : Conduct psychological and educational assessments to evaluate students learning, emotional, and behavioral needs. Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral interventions to support student learning and well-being. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment. Provide counseling and crisis intervention for students facing academic or emotional challenges. Use data-driven decision-making to monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed. Participate in special education evaluations and eligibility determinations. Serve as a resource for staff on best practices in addressing students' mental health and behavioral needs. Advocate for students needs and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Assist in developing positive behavior support strategies and programs for both individual students and the school as a whole. Provide professional development for teachers and staff on mental health, learning disabilities, and effective intervention strategies. Qualifications and Requirements : To work as a School Psychologist in Minnesota, the following licensure and certifications are required: Education : A masters degree or higher in School Psychology or Educational Psychology from an accredited institution is required. Completion of a school psychology preparation program approved by the Minnesota Department of Education. Licensure : Must hold or be eligible for a Minnesota School Psychologist License through the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) . Out-of-state candidates must apply for reciprocity through PELSB and meet Minnesotas standards for licensure. Certification : National certification through the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) is preferred but not required. Experience : Previous experience working as a school psychologist or in an educational setting is preferred but not mandatory for new graduates with appropriate training and internships. Skills and Competencies : Strong understanding of psychological assessments and interventions. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and Section 504. Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs. Crisis management and counseling experience are advantageous. Proficiency in data analysis and the use of data to inform educational decisions. Background Check : All applicants must pass a criminal background check as required by the state of Minnesota. Medical Requirements : Compliance with district health policies, including any required immunizations or medical clearances. Work Schedule : Follows the school districts academic calendar, with work during the school year and optional summer sessions.
