Details of the offer

Scientist, Single Cell Assay DevelopmentAbout Arc Institute The Arc Institute is a new scientific institution that conducts curiosity-driven basic science and technology development to understand and treat complex human diseases. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Arc is an independent research organization founded on the belief that many important research programs will be enabled by new institutional models. Arc operates in partnership with Stanford University, UCSF, and UC Berkeley.
About the position We are looking for a passionate scientist with a strong single cell and molecular assay development background to join our Multiomic Technology Development Center at Arc Institute. You will work closely with scientists and research associates in the technology centers and core investigator labs at Arc to unleash the potentials of single cell analysis tools for cutting edge neurodegenerative diseases and cancer research. You will develop and apply high-throughput single cell multiomic readouts of mammalian genomes, transcriptomes and epigenomes to large-scale genetic and environmental perturbations. You will play a critical role in the Institute's Virtual Cell Initiative, which aims to create the first foundational model that makes accurate predictions of cellular states and their responses to intervention, and ultimately to help identify rational therapeutic targets for devastating complex human diseases.
About you You are passionate about science and excited about answering questions related to single cell, genetic perturbations and complex human diseases. You are excited to develop novel molecular assays and tools to answer complex biological questions. You are creative, curious and unafraid to try new methodologies of tackling problems beyond the technique/approaches you are familiar with. You understand the importance of collaboration and thrive when working with a diverse team of scientists. You have a deep commitment to data quality, reproducibility, scalability while working in a fast-paced environment. In this position you will Work with the principal research scientist to drive single-cell technology development projects from concept through development and application, and contribute to the multiomic center technology roadmap in the single cell space.Develop and optimize high throughput low cost single-cell perturbation sequencing technologies and workflows in-house.Evaluate and implement commercial systems and workflows.Stay updated on the latest developments in the fields of single cell and genomics, actively seeking out opportunities for innovation.Manage projects and have responsibility for planning, tracking, and driving timely execution of research activities.Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental protocols, results, and conclusions.Report progress and present data in internal and external meetings.Requirements PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, or similar fields with 0-5 years of post-PhD experience in either academia or industry.Proven record in single cell biology or related method development publications.Deep expertise in molecular biology focusing on NGS assay development and various single-cell RNA sequencing workflows.Demonstrated success in developing and optimizing novel molecular biology assays with strong troubleshooting skills in collaboration with computational biologists.Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to plan, execute, and deliver results on time.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment and be both an independent thinker and a highly-collaborative team player.Preferred Qualifications: Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 or other genome editing technologies and hands-on Perturb-seq experience is a strong plus.Experience with the development of a novel single cell tool, both wet lab and dry lab is a strong plus.Experience with single cell epigenetics or multiomic readout is a plus.Familiarity with current single cell bioinformatic tools and ability to analyze large and complex sequencing data sets using Python, R, or similar tools is a plus. The base salary range for this position is $121,500 to $134,750. These amounts reflect the range of base salary that the Institute reasonably would expect to pay a new hire or internal candidate for this position. The actual base compensation paid to any individual for this position may vary depending on factors such as experience, market conditions, education/training, skill level, and whether the compensation is internally equitable, and does not include bonuses, commissions, differential pay, other forms of compensation, or benefits. This position is also eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus, with the amount dependent on individual and institute performance factors.
