The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Marine Program is seeking a Seasonal Program Assistant to provide part-time support for Sea Explorers Marine Camp and assist in day-to-day operations at the Sport Fishing Education Center (SFEC) located in Babylon, NY.
The Seasonal Program Assistant will be expected to work 8:30 am - 2:30 pm Monday through Friday (30-33 hours per week).
The position will start in late June 2024 and end in mid-August 2024.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Perform marine camp duties including but not limited to craft and activity prep/clean-up, facility cleaning, organizing camp equipment, assisting in equipment transport to oceanside beach, assist in beach activities/studies, etc.
+ Assist with camper supervision on and off the waterfront.
+ Maintain on-site cleaning and tank maintenance on aquaria, in tank room and classroom.
+ Assist counselors in lessons, crafts, seining, games, activities, etc.
Required Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent GED, plus 6 months volunteer or work experience.
+ Ability to work outdoors and perform various field activities.
+ Ability to work with and touch live sea creatures and reptiles.
+ Ability to understand and implement written and oral communication.
+ Must be reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team
+ Ability to lift 20-30 lbs.

+ Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position, including valid NYS drivers license and personal vehicle for on-the-job transportation, 3 years driving experience, and able to meet acceptable background check standards, if required.
Mileage reimbursed at Federal rate.
+ Able to understand and follow all safety and work site policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Previous experience volunteering or working with children and science.
+ Interest in marine science, environmental science, or any other related life science.
