Department Profile
Professionals within the Legal and Compliance Division (LCD) provide a wide range of services to our business units. They preserve the firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm's businesses.
The Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Department forms the second line of defense for management of the firm's non-financial risks, which include Financial Crimes, market manipulation or abuse and Operational risk.
NFR Data & Analytics is a function in the Legal and Compliance Division responsible for designing and optimizing surveillance models, approaches and tools using advanced analytical techniques like supervised and unsupervised machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and evolving techniques like graph analytics. The surveillances and other tools help identify suspicious and/or illegal behaviors like money laundering, market manipulation, insider trading, unfair sales or trading practices and other financial crimes.
Position Description
The NFR Data & Analytics team is looking for an experienced professional to lead the design and development of semantic capabilities within the Non-Financial Risk domain. With a professional background in consulting and/or the financial services industry you will be passionate about delivering technology enabled change within complex and dynamic businesses.
As part of a team focused on the development of consumer-grade semantic capabilities, you will be responsible for building and delivering solutions to our business partners throughout the Non-Financial Risk domain. With a strong focus on client success, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders across the organization to design and deliver next generation risk management capabilities.
You will be able to build your skills by working with taxonomists, information scientists and our Technology partners to deliver industry leading solutions, including the adoption of machine learning and GenAI. Your work will directly deliver capabilities like semantic search, knowledge graphs, recommendation engines and question/answering capabilities.
Responsibilities:
Advise business partners on the correct techniques and approaches to solving business problems using semantic technologies and data-centric approaches
Develop new semantic capabilities in partnership with colleagues from Technology and Data-Science teams
Lead business analysis activities across the team including the design and development of data models using data-centric methodologies
Manage projects to implement various semantic capabilities such as search utilities, question and answering and recommendation engines.
Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree
7+ years of related experience in a corporation, government body or relevant organization
Analytical mindset with ability to think critically about appropriate solutions to business problems
Demonstrable experience in the use of data led approaches to solving business problems
Analysis of business requirements and subsequent development of technical strategies and solutions to address
Agile development experience
Helpful/Desirable Skills:
>Experience of data design methodologies
>Knowledge of semantic technologies and ontology development
>Direct experience in operational risk management or related risk domains
>Experience in technology application design

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000.00 and $190,000.00 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
