Based in Huntsville, the Senior Aquatic Ecologist will report to the Environmental Department Lead and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on environmental assessment, species at risk, and aquatic studies. You will be part of a team that provides practical ecological solutions to industry, government, and private sectors. What You'll Do: As part of the Environmental team within TULLOCH Engineering, you will: Design and perform effective aquatic habitat and aquatic biota surveys to meet applicable regulatory or project-specific requirementsApply professional knowledge of industry and multi-disciplinary requirements as they pertain to a projectRecommend project-specific procedures and methods based on industry standards and professional experienceCoordinate, supervise, and conduct fish and fish habitat project workManage and coordinate projects, proposals, and permitting applications as a technical lead or project manager Assess project impacts on Natural Heritage features and prepare mitigation strategies to eliminate or reduce those impactsInterpret field data to prepare quality, accurate, and technically sound reports to meet project needs and regulatory requirementsReview technical documents, reports, and other deliverables prepared by colleagues to ensure quality control and to provide technical inputEnsure efficient and effective use of time and resources to adhere to project budgets and schedulesWork collaboratively with different offices and groupsConduct all aspects of business with the utmost respect, honesty, and integrity, including interactions with regulators, clients, and colleagues Support various environmental project work as requiredPlease note that this job description is not meant to be an all-inclusive statement of every duty and responsibility that will ever be required of an employee in the job. What You Should Bring: The ideal candidate will have a university degree (Master's degree preferred) in Ecology, Biology, or a related program. Additionally, you should bring: 7-10 years of experience working in a related role, preferably with consulting experienceProficiency with standard to advanced statistical analytical tools (proficiency with R preferred)Demonstrated ability to design and perform studies in aquatic ecology (Study design and project management experience is an asset)Applied knowledge of fish and fish habitat Applied knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislationExperience conducting fish community and population assessmentsExperience in field survey design and coordinationHigh motivation with results-oriented focusSuperior organizational and multi-tasking skillsStrong interpersonal and critical thinking skillsExcellent communication skills (oral and written)Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplaceProficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Valid Class G driver's licenceAssets for this position include: experience supervising and directing junior technical staff; MTO/DFO/MNRF fisheries protocol training; RAQS certification for Fisheries Assessment or Fisheries Contracts Specialty; and/or a ROM fish identification course.Who You Are: You are comfortable working in and around water, in remote areas, in all weather conditions, and at nightYou are willing to travel for fieldworkYou are always keen to try something newYou work hard until the job is doneYou go where others will not or cannot because you love a challengeYou are trusted with the freedom and responsibility to work independently while contributing to overall team successWhat We Offer You: TULLOCH has built a passionate workforce with a strong and vibrant culture which has been the key to our success.
