Overview:
JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Senior Associate Accountant, FINANCE Reports to: Controller, FINANCE
Location: 305 Seventh Avenue, New York, New York 10001
Hours: 35 hours, exempt
Salary: $86,000-$95,500/year
Job Summary: The Senior Associate Accountant applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting or group of funds.
Creates and interprets financial statements and reports.
Compiles financial information, processes journal entries into various accounts, reconcile reports and financial data.
Some familiarity with and an awareness of the laws and regulations that apply to an accounting function are required to ensure compliance.
Possesses knowledge of the fund accounting systems.
Know the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies, and procedures which may include some familiarity of other departments within the agency.

Major Duties: Exercises accounting control over a group of accounts within a given specialized area Interprets financial transactions and events of users who must make economic or business decisions Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies.
Initiate and processes journal entries into various accounts Reconcile sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves differences.
Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulates and/or format data and/or reports Prepare monthly expenditure reports for Agency funding sources as necessary

Job Qualifications: Bachelors degree required in Accounting, Business, or related fields with 3 plus years experience Must have experience in accounting and budgetary analysis Fund accounting experience preferred Must have an understanding of government requirements as they relate to a social service agency Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheet, and /or word processing required.
