We're seeking an experienced attorney to join our team as Commercial Counsel.
In this role, you'll build and lead our legal function as a team of one to start, while accelerating enterprise sales through efficient contract management and risk mitigation that enables rapid, responsible growth.
As we are a growing startup, you'll have the opportunity to shape our legal strategy and processes from the ground up while working closely with our sales team to drive business growth.
You will combine your legal expertise, business aptitude, and insight to support a world-class, agile commercial and transactional legal function.
This role reports to our COO and is based in San Francisco.
We work a hybrid schedule with three days in-office each week.
What You'll DoNegotiate and finalize complex commercial agreements with Fortune 500 legal departments and procurement teams.Partner strategically with go-to-market teams (sales, marketing, customer success, product) to understand objectives and accelerate deal velocity.Create and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and processes to improve efficiency and reduce cycle time.Collaborate with the Compliance team on certifications (GDPR, SOC2, USDP).Provide strategic guidance on legal risk mitigation and business opportunities.Conduct legal research to support our go-to-market team and their initiatives.Drive continuous improvement in our contract management processes to reduce cycle times and improve efficiency.Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to optimize legal service delivery across all functions of a growing tech business.What Will Help You SucceedJD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in California.6+ years experience combining law firm and in-house roles, with SaaS transaction emphasis.Strong negotiation skills with a focus on creating win/win agreements.Experience navigating complex enterprise procurement processes.Proven ability to work independently and meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Balance competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.Build trusted relationships with business teams and customers.Provide sound, practical legal guidance that turns challenges into opportunities.Why You Might Be Excited About AlembicYou want to build the architectural foundation for a legal function from the ground up.You're excited about working in a fast-paced environment where you can make an immediate impact.You're ready to hold ownership of the entire legal function while having the support of an experienced leadership team.At Alembic, diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of who we are.
