THE FOREST PROGRAM AND THE POSITION

RAN's Forest Program is focused on protecting tropical biodiversity from corporate expansion and supporting the rights of Indigenous and traditional peoples to control and manage their territories.
RAN is looking for a motivated, passionate and hard-working Senior Corporate Engagement Specialist to lead engagement with companies named in our Keep Forests Standing campaign, and work together with our global team.
This position will use a high level of professionalism and savvy negotiating skills to pressure some of the biggest agribusiness and forestry companies in the world as well as their multinational customers.
Whether corresponding with a consumer goods manufacturing company, representing RAN on a panel discussion, leading a multi-day negotiation on forest policies, or in a team meeting, the ideal candidate will enjoy interacting with people on a variety of levels while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient.


This is a highly collaborative position, working closely with our corporate engagement and campaign staff in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
The ideal candidate will have strong people and communication skills, be highly organized, and a strong writer.
This position is full-time and salaried with excellent benefits and reports directly to the Forest Campaign Director.
This position is based in the United States.


SPECIFIC DUTIES Work with the Forests Team to design corporate campaign strategies that support forest protection and uphold the rights of forest communities Work with the Forest Campaign Director and Forest Policy Director to lead negotiations on forest-risk commodity procurement and production policies Build and maintain relationships with corporate actors throughout forest-risk supply chains in tropical forest regions (Indonesia & Brazil) Undertake policy analysis and engagement with consumer goods manufacturing companies to inform our annual scorecard evaluating corporate actions to eliminate deforestation and human rights abuse from forest-risk commodity supply chains Prepare evidence-based content for publications and briefing documents on topics related to forest policies and supply chain accountability systems Track global trends and analyze research to inform corporate engagement strategies Maintain issue expertise on tropical forests, agribusiness and forestry sectors, and forest-risk commodity supply chains as well as political and economic issues that relate to the campaign Act as a public spokesperson for RAN with the media and at industry forums in the US, Europe and Asia Attend regular meetings with the global team and report to the Forest Campaign Director Cultivate and maintain relationships with key allies Support other aspects of RAN's work (e.g.
campaign, organizing and fundraising activities) Contribute to building inclusive and collaborative team culture, in conjunction with RAN staff based in the U.S. and internationally REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSA minimum of 5 years' experience in corporate, human rights, and/or environmental campaigning and conducting corporate negotiations, ideally within the context of corporate campaigning Excellent oral and written communication skills in English that are adaptable to presentations and correspondence to corporations, policy revisions, and publications Experience in public speaking, including with the media Deep subject knowledge on some of the following topics: forest policies, human rights policies, forestry and agribusiness sectors, supply chain accountability systems (supply chain mapping and engagement, traceability, human rights and environmental due diligence, monitoring, reporting and verification systems, grievance mechanisms), and land sector accounting Strong organizational, time management and project management skills A proven track record of working effectively in teams Commitment to uphold RAN's values in their behavior and work toward racial justice and a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences Commitment to nonviolent direct action principles Ability to travel frequently, up to 40%, in the U.S., Europe, and Asia and willingness to work flexible hours for meetings with corporations and our global team based in the U.S., Europe, and Asia DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience working in, or with partners, Indigenous and frontline communities, in tropical forest regions, particularly Indonesia and Brazil Language skills from regions in which we work are a plus, including but not limited to Indonesian, Portuguese, and Japanese Previous experience working with a cross-cultural team across global time zones COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time position with an anticipated starting salary range of $88,000-95,000 commensurate with experience.
Due to the nature of this position's engagement with U.S. brands and work with a U.S. based team, candidates must be based in the US and have US work authorization.
RAN has staff in time zones across the world, and staff are expected to work flexibly in order to connect with colleagues.


Benefits include 100% RAN-paid health, dental and vision insurance for the staff person and their partner/family, four weeks PTO (increases to five weeks after two years) as well as a paid flexible sick time, winter break, and a retirement plan with a 3% employer match.
Additionally, after every five years of service, staff are eligible for a 12-week fully-paid sabbatical.


BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

RAN is a union workplace; our staff are represented by RAN Alliance for Workers' Rights (RAWR) via CWA 9415.
This position is included in the unit.
