Labor and Employment Senior Counsel The Eversource Legal Department is seeking an experienced labor and employment attorney with some benefits experience to join the Labor, Employment and Benefits team reporting to the team's Assistant General Counsel.
This position involves all facets of employment and labor law work.
The successful candidate will provide clear, timely, high-quality, and practical legal advice and support to Human Resources and management clients on a wide range of labor and employment law issues, and will also represent the Eversource companies in a variety of labor and employment matters, including state and federal discrimination proceedings before the EEOC and state FEPA agencies, wage and hour and FMLA claims, labor arbitrations, and proceedings before the NLRB, as well as similar proceedings in other state and/or federal agencies.
The successful candidate will also occasionally actively manage and work with outside counsel on such matters.
Technical Knowledge/Skill: Requires hands-on counseling experience on a broad range of employment and labor law issues, including hiring, employee relations, investigations, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, discipline and terminations, medical and family leaves of absence, disability and religious accommodations, occupational safety and health issues, wage and hour compliance, contingent worker issues, union grievances, union negotiations, DOT drug and alcohol testing, and government contractor issues, as well as related litigation experience, including responding to agency charges and complaints, handling union election campaigns and unfair labor practice proceedings, and handling labor arbitrations.
Knowledge of employee benefits law is a plus.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and be able to immediately assume an active workload, collaborating closely with other in-house legal resources, human resources personnel, company management, and, in certain matters, outside counsel.
Being a team player, well-organized, and able to proactively and timely identify and effectively present to management business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems are essential qualities to ensure success in this position.
The candidate must also demonstrate excellent written and oral communications skills.
Education: A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school is required.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least ten (10) years of timely, relevant labor and employment law and some employee benefits experience.
Bar Admissions: Admission in good standing to the bar of Massachusetts, Connecticut or New Hampshire is required (admission in more than one of these states is a plus).
