The PositionThe Opportunity The Senior Data Scientist of Technical Institute (TI) is a member of the Evidence for Access (E4A) unit in the US Policy, Evidence and Access Strategy department. He/she works independently and assists senior TI team members to design and execute economic modelling studies; hands-on technical experience needed. Hands-on retrospective observational research (real-world evidence) experience is a plus. As a subject matter expert, he/she may also review and design studies that are conducted by external vendors.
Key responsibilities include: Independently design and execute simulation models (e.g., discrete event simulation) and other decision-analytic models (e.g., decision trees, Markov, partitioned survival) to assess, amongst other things; costs, budget impact, cost-effectiveness, population events and policy impactsAnalyse secondary data (e.g. insurance claims, electronic medical record, patient survey, and disease registry)Support senior TI members to design and execute economic modelling studiesRecommend and implement appropriate analytical methodologiesDevelop and maintain study documentation, including; study plans, technical reports, training material and dissemination deliverablesContribute to web-based tool development and maintenanceProvide quality check of TI peer's modelsEvaluate new research methods or technological advancementsWhen assigned, represent E4A in internal and/or external cross-functional, strategic planning and/or other programs on innovative methodology or technologyParticipate in all required Genentech and E4A training and development programs. Required Qualifications: Master's Degree (health policy and management, economics, epidemiology, public policy, or health services research);A minimum of 2 years (4 years for Master's degree) of prior work experience in academic/research institute, consulting, managed care, government, and/or pharmaceutical industryStrong hands-on experience in economic modellingProgramming experience in Excel or R.Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Strong attention-to-detailStrong oral and writing communication skills to summarise and explain the findings to audiences who may not have technical backgroundAbility to work collaboratively in a dynamic, team-based environmentAbility to work independently on all assigned tasks and projects.Demonstrated ability to learn and embrace new technologies, applications and solutionsPreferred Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in above or other related disciplinesObservational research study analysis experience is a plusPython experienceAdvanced statistics and health economics concepts are a plusExperience in publication in peer-reviewed journal is preferredThis role is South San Francisco based, however may consider remote options Relocation assistance is offered on this position The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $145,000/yr to $269,400/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
