Pay Range: $140,000 - $160,000

Job Description: The Senior Director of DC Operations and Government Affairs provides strategic leadership of Syracuse University's Washington DC Center (SUDC).
In support of the SUDC mission and programmatic tenants, the Senior Director will develop and implement the necessary systems and processes to ensure efficient and effective operations of the Center; develop and maintain key relationships with external stakeholders; act as a steward of the SUDC brand; and serve as the accountable party for coordination between the Center and main campus stakeholders.
The Senior Director will also represent the University at events in the DC area and coordinate with local University stakeholders on regional activities and initiatives.
In addition, the Senior Director will actively engage as a member of Syracuse University's federal engagement team in Washington, DC.
In this capacity, the Senior Director will work at the direction of Syracuse University's Executive Director of Federal Government Engagement, to advance the University's federal engagement priorities across all branches of government.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in political science, public affairs, communications, business or related fields.
Master's degree preferred.Four (4) plus years of experience working in government relations, or other related experience.Successful track record of convening government stakeholders and executing on legislative and/or regulatory strategies.Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with public officials and their staffs.Skilled at analyzing and interpreting legislation and policy documents, as well as experience with governmental advocacy approaches.Skilled at representing University's goals and priorities to governmental and policy partners.Highly effective verbal and written communicator.Experience managing budgets and functioning in a resource-constrained environment.Experience in a higher education setting and/or organizing events preferred.Skills and Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.Must have prior experience working in or with Congress and/or the Executive Branch, or experience in nonprofit and policy organizations, to support the University's impact on public policy.Must have ability to prepare a variety of written communications such as reports, testimony and fact sheets.Must be able to work well as part of a team, take direction, and provide leadership as needed.Track record of advancing diversity and creating an inclusive culture within a professional and/or educational setting.Responsibilities: Provide leadership and supervision of Syracuse University's Washington DC Center (SUDC).Supervises the SUDC Director of Facility Operations and works in conjunction with the Director to ensure that SUDC operates effectively, efficiently and safely for students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders.Envision and execute on programs, events, and initiatives that raise the profile of Syracuse University in Washington.In conjunction with the Executive Director for Federal Government Engagement, support University strategy and strengthens relationships with federal elected officials and government agencies.Execute on assigned government relations issues on behalf of the University.Communicate with University stakeholders on relevant government issues.Represent Syracuse University at policy and stakeholder events and conferences.Develop and manage the SUDC operating budget and ensure that University resources are consistently put to highest and best use.Provide leadership to resolve facility and operational issues as needed.Other Duties as Assigned.Application Instructions: In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume and cover letter.
