DescriptionLocated out of our Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) in Fort Saskatchewan, the individual in the Senior Process Engineer role will report to the Process Engineering Manager, within the Technical Services team. The position utilizes engineering expertise, operational knowledge and skills to provide day-to-day technical support, help troubleshoot issues and develop the scope for operational and capital modifications that will improve plant performance.
Key Activities and ResponsibilitiesAct as a key technical resource for Operations, Maintenance and other Technical Services groups.Act as an engineering resource for plant technology in the Polypropylene unit.Use strong technical knowledge to complete process engineering deliverables and tasks with minimal guidance and direction.Provide Process Engineering support by evaluating plant process data to develop and provide solutions and business cases for operating and plant modifications.Provide technical expertise for Process Safety (PSM) issues and initiatives ensuring that these are managed in a timely manner.Identify, develop and support a 5-year capital plan for plant modifications and improvements.Independently drive projects to completion with minimal supervision utilizing sound engineering judgment and compliance with APEGA Professional Practice Management Plan and HPC's Management of Change (MOC) system.Report incidents and provide leadership/expertise in Incident Investigations & Causal Analysis sessions.Participate in safety culture initiatives & annual compliance audits.Advance the fundamentals of plant processes to improve knowledge at site and develop an appreciation at site for good practices as they relate to plant processes.Develop over time and through experience and training into an internally recognized plant process expert.Education, Skills and ExperienceMinimum bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.10+ years of industry related experience, preferably in refining, petrochemicals or oil & gas industries.Registration with, or eligible for, registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA.A strong technical understanding of petrochemical plant processes and equipment, data analysis, operational best practices, project management, production planning, and process safety.Strong knowledge in Design Engineering and Practices and familiarity with design codes.Experience with process engineering software packages (e.g., Aspen, Hysys/Unisim, PI Systems - to name a few). Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, strong communication and technical writing abilities, attention to detail and well-developed interpersonal skills are required.Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience and a proven track record in process engineering and plant operations in a large, integrated industrial facility especially Polyethylene or Polypropylene.HoursFull time, 9x80 schedule (option to do Mon – Fri).
