Senior EstimatorGCS-SIGAL seeks out challenging, rewarding projects, and creative problem solvers to help us build them. We specialize in general contracting, pre-construction, design-build, and sustainable construction. We take on a variety of projects including base building, renovation, historic modernization, and tenant interior construction.
Position OverviewThe Senior Estimator at GCS-SIGAL will work closely with the preconstruction, estimating, marketing, and operations teams to scope, estimate, and bid construction projects.
Position FunctionsTypical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Solve challenging issues creatively, positively, and ethicallyBid $20 million projectsCommunicate clearly and effectively to clients, architects, owners, and subcontractorsPrepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and RFP'sMaintain a qualified database of subcontractors to ensure the company's competitiveness in bidding and ability to perform work to appropriate standardsPrepare conceptual estimates and budgets for multiple upcoming projectsPerform detailed quantity take-offs and provide scope sheets for purchasingAnalytically review project documents to develop well-written RFIs and identify potential scope gaps and design omissionsDevelop subcontractor relationships by attending industry networking events and visiting individual subcontractor offices to develop and maintain relationshipsAssist operations with change orders and proposal developmentEvaluate bid specifications and drawingsAttend pre-bid meetings and/or site visitsParticipate in the interview process as required by some projects for awardMaintain qualified subcontractor bidders listMinimize job costs by communicating scopes of work with subcontractors and vendorsIdentify potential project risksWork closely with the marketing department to prepare RFP responses Leadership ResponsibilitiesMentor and manage estimators, interns, and other junior employeesIdentify areas for process improvement and implement solutionsAssist in recruiting efforts to grow the estimating/preconstruction departments Experience/EducationBS or MS Degree in Relevant FieldAt least 7 years' experience performing estimating and/or project management tasks in the general contractor industry Knowledge, Skills, & StrengthsProven ability to multi-task in a high volume, time sensitive, and deadline driven environmentKnowledgeable of principles of architecture, engineering, and constructionStrong technical, documentation, and communication skillsDemonstrate analytical skills when approaching a taskAbility to work in a team environmentAbility to read specifications, plan designs, and detailsKnowledge of the RFP and bidding processesMath and analytical skills regarding cost and pricingWorking knowledge of Procore, construction project management softwareProficient with Microsoft office particularly Microsoft ExcelExperience interfacing with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors Physical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to access and navigate active construction sites (PPE provided)May be required to work greater than 40 hours per week as needed to meet business requirements.
